Character » Batman appears in 23649 issues.
Bruce Wayne, who witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swore to avenge their deaths. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. DO YOU THINK THAT BAT MAN SHULD USE GUNS YES /NO
I was going to say no before I clicked on this thread, but then I saw that pic and was like, Holy S#$%.
no, batman hates guns. if he started using guns it would be counter to like fifty years of his persona. i would think that betrays too many of batman's principles.
It would be counterproductive in a major way. He would be going against his own principles and things he has sttod adamantly for for so long.
no guns would be a set back is like he would not be the dark knight no more he is good as how he is plus he would look lame with a gun to me batman with a batarang looks we more cooler an darker than a gun with a gun everybody knows you just going to shoot you never know what he is going to do with the batarang an what type he is going to use but this my opinion
I liked the way they have handled Batman using guns. I would like to see them do it in the future but as a standard practice. Probably not.
No, it's one of those things that make too much sense, but won't happen in the long run. Just like killing the Joker would make sense, but would never take place. It's the weapon that took away his parents, and his childhood, and any chance for a normal life. Using the gun would be giving power to something that took evertyhing away from him as a child. He is reclaiming power over the gun by becoming a bat and fighting with his hands and gadgets while never killing. It's so deep.
Tranquilizing guns or tasers or non lethal guns yeah but not bullet guns, I also want his to do justice as in killing those goddamn psychos he keeps locking up and then they get out and so on.
Can anyone explain him using guns in the new Batman Odyssey? I mean, I know it is set when Dick was Robin, but is that a new thing or was it always known?
" No he shouldn't... and people shouldn't use Caps Lock either. "Yeah, the Caps Lock on the whole title is annoying.
What I don't get is how he'll ask if Batman should use guns, and yet try to make it seem like he does by posting a picture of a flame-thrower?
But my answer would be, no Batman shouldn't use guns.
" no, batman hates guns. if he started using guns it would be counter to like fifty years of his persona. i would think that betrays too many of batman's principles. "well said
Ok xerox-kity and War Killer what is the big deal with having the title in all caps? And i agree he probly should not guns because to me I would remind him of how his parents were killed and with all of that hatred fueled inside of him he would kill his enemies not knock them out and that is just not the Batman way.
" @GreenLantern555 said:It kind of blew my mind..." Can anyone explain him using guns in the new Batman Odyssey? I mean, I know it is set when Dick was Robin, but is that a new thing or was it always known? "I figured that was an alternate reality or something. "
What kind of a stupid question is this? Lets see, how many years has Bats been around an not used a gun? Yea- not a chance.
He should use whatever tool is needed for the job at hand. He's used guns MANY times over the years, so I don't know why people are acting like it's so preposterous.
Depends on whether you believe Batman was justified in developing his Tower of Babel protocols or not.
A policeman does not keep a gun at his side to kill people... he keeps it there because it is an effective means of stopping evil which may involve brandishing, wounding, and lawful killing. By the same token, Batman did not develop protocols for the purpose of harming close allies... but as an effective means of stopping them in case of evil triggering their worst fears, maiming them, and putting them in jeopardy of losing their lives.
If Batman is so idealistic as to believe he will never need a gun (but not condemn every cop on the street- or his dear friend Gordon- for having a sidearm) then why would he ever need protocols?
I thought Final Crisis did a good job of getting Batman over his hoplophobia when it mattered. Although somewhat undermined by the futuristic space gun appearance which supports the concept that "realistic" looking guns are evil but things that function identically- or even more dangerously- aren't... an explosive thrown projectile is going to kill more reliably than most handguns in existence and Batman keeps them on his person regularly... in the animated series his grappling hook legally constitutes a gun (a device which ejects a projectile by a triggering mechanism and explosive propellant) and would certainly be lethal at short range (and he even uses it as a projectile weapon in the series a few times).
That said, there is a certain theme and icon to Batman, but the writers should refine his reasoning for excluding the gun rather than basing it on neurosis or non-lethality neither of which are compelling or credible reasons (again, does not condemn Jim's sidearm nor does he stop carrying grenades and other high-yield dangerously lethal devices).
