What the Spit!
Sweet Baby Bunnies! We have a plot! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. This is not just a series of crazy random incidents happening one after the other, there is a purpose! It is like Christmas all over again.
The Good
This is the issue where things actually start to make sense, and we get an idea of where Adams is going. Even though the bulk of this issue is just exposition, there is a fair bit of really good action. My personal favorite moment is when the Joker gets punched in the face, Adams gives him this very silly expression that hearkens back to an almost Tex Avery style. If Tex Avery had covered everything he did in blood, of course.
The Bad
Don't think that just because Adams has laid out some kind of story that this issue isn't stuffed to the gills with all kinds of hair pulling terrible, 'cause it is. I am going to say spoilers here to warn you, but honestly it is hard to spoil something that makes no sense even after you read it. So the main villain is revealed to be the classic Batman enemy the Sensei, who according to every other Batman story is Ra's father, but it seems that in fact he is his son. Because you know, why not. Also Adams brings back those classic characters Jamroth Bok, and his faithful sidekick Primus... You know from that time... During that thing... Oh wait, no they are brand new and totally just show up without explanation or purpose. Other than to drink sodas of course, because that is important to the plot.
The Conclusion
So the plot that Adams has laid out actually seems pretty interesting. It deals with fathers and sons, and how those roles impact our daily lives. I think, it is hard to say with all the madness going on around it. Despite the story revelations this series is as hard to wrap your brain around as ever. If you've made it this far I hope you are not thinking of stopping now. Things are just getting interesting,
and to top it all off the titular Odyssey has not even begun yet...
