End To All Miracles
Batgirl does everything she can to stop the Mirror and find out who he really is.
My Thoughts:Gail Simone really turns up the heat in this second issue giving readers a lot to think about. We learn more about this new villain Mirror and we can begin to deduce more about him from the new information given to us. Personally I like him. I think he'll make a pretty cool villain and I hope he'll be around for a while. This issue sort of serves as an origin for him as we learn what happened to his wife and kids. We find out he has military training and some of the things that make him tick. What makes him the perfect new Gotham villain is that he actually wants to die. So at the end of the issue he places a bomb on the subway as an "act of kindness" to all those aboard, particularly a man who had recently collapsed on the train who Mirror believes should have died then.
We get to see more Batgirl action within this issue. We can see she's still not in her peak condition as she recently reentered the superhero business. She's making careless mistakes at times. Mistakes that are costing her physical harm and catching the attention of her new roommate. A lot of people seem to have a problem with this but I think this is what makes not only this issue, but the entire story so far as strong as it has been. It makes sense that she's a little rusty considering she was out of the game and confined to a wheelchair. It adds a nice touch of realism to the story that's much needed.
I didn't care much for the guy Babs went out on a date with. Personally I'd rather see her with Dick Grayson. However I did enjoy the dialogue during their date. I like how it wrapped into the rest of the story and how Babs is feeling presently. At least we find out Nightwing will be involved in the next issue so we all have that to look forward to.
I wonder if other readers took notice to the tagging on the subway that read "Professor Stein Alive." Not sure if Gail Simone is trying to drop hints relating to her other new 52 title she writes (Firestorm).
Once again Ardian Syaf does a tremendous job on the artwork. I'm really loving his style. It's so beautiful. The cemetery scene in the rain was one of my favorite parts. The action scenes are incredibly drawn. I have no complaints whatsoever about the art.
This was another great issue to the series which is shaping up to be one of my favorites out of the new 52. I look forward to seeing how Babs handles the transition back to Batgirl and how she'll defeat Mirror. I'd recommend reading this series if you haven't yet.
