Endure the FlameI'm surprised to find that after building up his appearance for approximately forever, Gail Simone handed off Barbara's confrontation with James Jr. to Ray Fawkes. I know that there was the whole firing/rehiring thing, but if Simone could get herself unfired, surely she could secure the story about James Jr., so this strikes me as odd. Also, James Jr. had a rather odd role in Death of the Family. I could buy into the idea that perhaps James had been keeping tabs on his mom and th...

OMFG Batgirl is actually not bad 13

This was good, its the first time i can genuinely say that about batgirl, this was just goodthere are 2 things that stuck with me while opening the first pages100% Ray Fawkesthe first thing i notice reading this book is that Gail Simone's name is nowhere on it, not to say that i didnt knew that she wasnt writing the book but i was under the impresion that she at least plotted this, however she is literally not listed as plotter(which if that was the case she would had been listed), do you know w...

No rest from the wicked 0

What went downThere is never any rest for the wicked thus leaving no time for the heroes to rest either. Running on "coffee and will power," Barbra refuses to rest until this mess by the Joker and her brother are cleaned up. Commentary done from the point of view from her brother reveals she's been taking 20 minute power naps in-between going through the police data base and looking for all of the Joker's followers and alerting the police of who they are. We then see a side of her we rarely see;...

The Good: Daniel Sampere pencils this issue and he does a great job. The action is very well done and really shows you what Babs is doing. The expressions in this issue also help provide a little feeling for every character in this issue. Their is tons of smoke and fire in this issue and Sampere does a great job at making the smoke look sketchy; but the colorist also keeps up the art in this issue. The story feels much different from normal writer Gail Simone. Ray Fawkes decides not to make Barb...

PREFACE:Now I know that I am pretty much late to the party, but I am nothing but persistent. Ray Fawkes is gonna be writing these next couple of issues, but Gail will return. This is still an interesting set up, and with James Jr. lurking around, it seems like Babs isn't going to get a break. We will see what James had planned in DOTF, and what his future entails, but on to the review.PLOT:SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.Babs is on the search for the henchmen Joker used duri...

This is a series I've really been enjoying as of late and like a lot of people I was upset to hear that series writer Gail Simone had been fired from the series. Luckily it was announced that DC had given her job back, but this has effected the series leaving it with a different writer for this issue, and the next, with Simone returning on issue 19.PlotThis issue sees Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) dealing with life after her encounter with the Joker in Death of the Family, whilst she has family probl...

    Gordon Family Reunion 0

That..... is a hideous cover. FAR too many lines make this overly fussy, the close perspective REALLY doesn't help, it just makes the whole thing look more flat and generic. But the worst part of it is the AWFUL characterization of James Gordon Jr. implies by the cover. That is not even close to any sort of facial expression James would EVER make. He's the creepy calm and collected foe, in in desperation; and this is the beginning of his arc, so even less reason for that.... awful face. Just... ...

    Introducing.... Firebug? 0

The issue covers a lot of ground. Wrapping-up Joker's arc, continuing with James Jr's crazy game, and even finding time to re-introduce Firebug, Fawkes did a good job here. The narrative feels a tad strange, though. And did Batgirl stop a rocket with a bag? And where is Alysia? Please check my mini-review here:http://bit.ly/14YVmE7Comments and feedback are always welcome!...
