AvX 8
We are reaching an end game, with the pawns to decide the war being placed.
THE GOOD
As Namor invaded, we finally get to see the Xmen do something questionable. Of course, this will only mean that the Phoenix 5 are going to be suffering from some strife and suspicion, allowing the Avengers to recoup and prepare.
I liked how strong Namor was represented, to the point where he could do such... cringe inducing damage to the Hulk. And how he kept just batting away the fighters like fly's. Writing was a highlight, with the sense of urgency represented well. Same goes for the battle scenes, which had a nice rhythm and flow to it.
Plus, I enjoy the little signs that the estranged couple of Wanda and Vision still caring for eachother.
THE BAD
It seems weird that it took Xavier this long to actually put his foot down against Scott, since, being the stick in the mud that he is, he would have tried to reason with Scott the instant the Phoenix possessed him. But I guess Xavier waited till they actually did something bad to do it. Hindsight, I guess. Also, I would have liked to know more about what Namor is thinking, both due to Emma's manipulations, and now due to his loss.
Another issue is... why no information on Storm? I'm not sure on the status of their marriage at this point, but I assume she still cares for the Wakanda, being its, former or otherwise, queen. The fact her fellow ally pretty much declared war and destroyed much of the capital would seem to be important to her. Unless some tie in deals with it, lol.
Besides a few issues with the story, the art took a wrong step to me. Its not on Romita levels of awful. but its just difficult to put up with such stark changes in art every couple of issues.
THE VERDICT
I'll call it the weakest of the second act, which is still an enjoyable read. It suffers from what seem to be missed opportunities, but nothing really condemns it to being bad. Hopefully we see some actual repercussions soon.
