the beginning of a new age 0

The heroic age finally started and gues what...the avengers are back! And this time they have to face their old pal Kang the conqueror. The good: -The art in my opinion was good and I really liked the cover. -The narrative was good but there wasn´t kind of "what happened before?" page and that´s bad because the new readers can be confused. -The backup was entertaining. The bad: -As I said there´s no "introduction" page. -I think that for a first issue it was pretty short. Closing comments: For a ...

It's Not New, Dark, Mighty, or Young. This is THE Avengers. 4

Plot & Action: Brian Michael Bendis does a good job of progressing the overall story of the Marvel U while making it friendly for new readers. You don't need to know about the past because this is a new era for the Marvel U. We get Captain Rogers picking his team, get a brief reason of why, and get an idea of the first threat(s?) for this Avengers team to face while going at a pretty good pace. Character Work: This is where Bendis typically nails it, and this issue is no different. The tensi...

    THE AVENGERS #1(spoiler) 0

"Next Avengers" part 1 by Brian Bendis and John Romita Jr. This was the first comic out of my pull list this week that i read. My opinon on the issue? This comic was fantastic. It had a great beginning story, and the art is amazing. Love this! Love this! Love this! In the beginning of this issue we see the next generation of Avengers beating some ass! I won't say who the next Avengers are just in case there are people out there who don't know. After we see that we get to see the newest line-up o...

    A good, solid start... 0

Bendis is building a foundation here, and it's a strong one. This team doesn't have a single character I dislike, except maybe Wolverine, but I can live with that. Obviously this was a first issue. so it's a lot of exposition about who's there, why, and the relationships between everybody. The Spiderman/Hawkeye gag was great, and Thor not recognizing Bucky was chuckleworthy, and a callback to the Dark Avengers formation where Moonstone didn't know who Daken was. Kang coming back was a nice touch...

New team of Avengers and a new threat 1

Another first issue of a whole new Avengers team.  So not only it's the Heroic Age and Avengers day, but also the return of other exciting characters than just the return of the official Avengers.  Now before going into this comic and reviewing it inside and out, **spoilers** are bound to be mentioned.      The Good: -Kang is back, hell yeah. After knowing Kang within the world of Marvel, its a fact that when you see this guy on the cover of a comic, shit is bound to hit the fan. I like his ch...

    Finally Reassembled 0

This is the fourth time Brian Michael Bendis has assembled an Avengers team, but this time it's the Avengers. This issue mostly focuses on that fact. While some of the wider effects of the Steve Rogers-led Heroic Age are touched on, no new revelations are given and the issue quickly narrows in on Steve meeting with his new handpicked team of Avengers. It is lighter on character than Bendis' usual work. A scene between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers about why Steve would want Tony on the team is abo...

Romita makes Steve Rogers look like a blond Steve Jobs 0

The Good Really funny parts that make the story feel more down to earth and add warmth to what could be a very cold story without it. The Spiderman and Hawkeye conversation about Hawkeye’s return to his title of Hawkeye mantel is the best example of this though it is shown a various points throughout. The splash page showing Steve Rogers recruiting the avengers is good and comes across with a strong wit and charm. Marvel’s back cover advertiser this week if Land O’ Frost lunch meats with iron ...

The Return of the Real Avengers...Sort Of 1

Before you get all mad that I gave this issue 3 stars, I urge you to read my reasons why.   It's no secret that I hated Siege, and it's less of a secret that I'm disillusioned with the Avengers franchise as of late, nevertheless, I was pumped for this. Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man? Count me in.   I have a sincere question. Why is Wolverine on this team? Secret Avengers? Yes. New Avengers? Little more obscure, but ok. But the Avengers? The spotlight team? No....

    i'll be rly quick 1

Finally we have an Avengers book that doesn't need any EVENT or a MASSIVE STORYLINE THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND WILL KILL PLENTY OF HEROES JUST FOR A SHOCKING EFFECT to be an Avengers book. This is the most superhero-ish book I have read in YEARS. And when I say superhero-ish, I mean superhero-ish. And I know that it would sound weird, even more creepier than when it's in my mind, but the Avengers relaunch is more heroic and brighter than, hm, the Brightest Day. And don't you dare saying 'oh ...

    Avengers: Heroic Age...meh. 0

As a long time X-men fan I’ve haven’t really been interested in reading any other team or book for a long time.   Fortunately I have recently decided to broaden my horizons and branch out to many other books.   I figured a re-re-re launch of the Avengers would be a great place to start. Cover/Art I’ll lump these two together since it’s the same artist.   I have to say I’ve never really been a fan of John Romita Jr.   I do like the way he draws action scenes but that’s about it.   Everyone just ...

The Avenger Jr.'s are causing trouble 5

Cover Some of the cover is great but, some of the cover is bad. Like Thor looks very weird on the cover but, Wolverine looks fine. The best part of the cover is the web bringing spider-man into the picture on Thor’s hammer. Story The story begins with Immortus the master of time staying that he hates the Avenger’s kids. Then Steve Rogers makes another Avenger team but, Wonder-man says this is a bad idea. Steve brings some of the Avengers to the mansion to tell them what the Avengers are all...

    High Expectations 0

I will admit that I had high expectations for this book when it was announced.  I knew that coming out of the Dark Reign world that the Avengers would be a big deal again.  I kept my mouth mostly shut when I found out who the artist for the book was going to be.  I told myself it would be alright and that I should not start kicking things yet.  I am torn.  I love that the big three are back.  I love that Clint is back as Hawkeye and I love the concept of the story line.  I am just not big on the...

    Stumbling Block 0

The Good Bendis has successfully steered the main Marvel Universe into a much more optimistic place. As promised in the promotion for the Heroic Age, everything about Avengers #1 sparkles with old-school style superhero optimism. Even the threat brought to the Avengers by Kang seems almost old-school in its cheesiness, full of time travel and other fun nonsense. John Romtia Jr. supports the series well by using his playful artwork to evoke a feeling much like the old Avengers comics of the 60s-7...

It's hip to be square (Not really) 0

This review will contain some spoilers, so if you do not wish to be spoiled then stop reading.  Avengers v4, the very first issue of the new Avengers series. I was not particularly psyched about this series, but when all is said and done The Avengers is Marvel's premiere super-hero team. After being immensely disappointed by Siege and Secret Invasion, I decided to dive into "The Herioc Age". And really, this is promising isn't it? It reminds me of the old days when the line between hero and bad ...

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE FOR A REVIEW!!! 0

Story Avengers #1 starts out immediately after the events of Siege. Immortus Master of Time has just been defeated by some kid version Avengers. Steven Rogers is recruiting members for the team. Some are eager and some are not so eager. Wonderman is totally against the idea because he believes that all they do is cause destruction. The members are: Thor, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-Woman, and Iron Man. Tony and Steven still have major differences so Steven hires a lea...

    Kang + Next Avengers = Win 0

Avengers #1 The first thing that I have to question here is something that will probably get me hated upon by a good portion of the fanboy universe.   Why is John Romita Jr. such a celebrated artist?   The ar tin this book including the cover is of questionable quality throughout most of the issue.   I have to go back and look but has he always been this bad at drawing faces?   There is just a bunch of inconsistency in the art quality.   The first page with Steve Rodgers excellent art, the colo...

Return to the Good Old Days? 0

This debut issue featuring the triumphant return of the Avengers, is enough to get almost anyone pumped about the Heroic Age. Bendis melds his own style with that of the classic early days of the Marvel Universe as we know it. The concept is executed well enough, that you barely notice John Romita Jr.'s lackluster effort here. An interesting thing about the issue is that while it's a team we've seen before of peers who have worked with each other, these heroes still seem to be trying to find the...

A return to greatness...is just around the corner 0

The Avengers are the Avengers, and all is good in the world. Iron Man, Thor, Cap, Spidey and Hawkeye (who is suspiciously missing from JRJ's cover) are back together and ready to be heroic once again.  What can you say about a team that has been together so many times in so many situations starting all over again? Only that this comic will not disappoint. I have nothing but great expectations for this new era and the combo of Bendis and Romita Jr. tells me Marvel wants me to take this seriously....

    Offspring of evil 3

The Story - After Siege, Steve Rogers is top cop of America, and he thinks it´s for the best to put the Avengers back together, and just after the team´s presentation to the readers, Kang shows up to bring an allert from the future. The Good - I really like Kang, he is a good foe and I think cosmic (time travel) stuff suits the Avengers, so I guess the plot is something that can grow beyond the usual expectations. Good dialogues, especially between the Avengers and Kang, that delivered his mess...

    Avengers #1 Review 0

Here we are the beginning of a new era. It's not New,Mighty, an Initiative, West Coast, or even Dark; This is The Avengers! I really enjoy the fact that for the first time in a long time the Avenger books will not be weighed down (story wise) by a big bad ole crossover. I'm really quite excited that marvel has decided not to have anymore company wide events. The part I really like about this is when that happens in a book the real reason someone is reading the book gets put to the waysid...

"The face of a new era" 0

100 Words Or LessAfter Siege, a new era has been ushered in and Steve Rogers is assembling teams of Avengers tasked to be the heroes of the world. Some are excited, others are reluctant, while one is defiant. The flagship Avengers team assembles Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Spider-Woman, with Maria Hill running the team. One member is not present at their inaugural meeting but before they have a chance to find out who, Kang interrupts them with a message f...

    Into the Heroic Age! 0

First issue of the Avengers of the new Marvel arc, the Heroic Age. Marvel's new arc is about putting the heroes back on top, where as the past decade we have seen them fall... hard. Now, with the dawn of the heroic age, it's time for them to pick up the bricks of the old hero community, and launch forward into the new age of Heroes!     Rearing from the events of siege in where Norman Osborn attempted to end Asgard if not for the intervention of earths mightiest heroes! The issue starts off w...

The Heroic age is here for the Avengers. Which is Iron Man, Both Captain Americas, Wolverine, Hawkeye, Thor, Wolverine, Spider-man and Spider-Woman. Oh yea!! Throw Maria Hill in the mix. I am very excited for this title. Bendis and Romita Jr. Make a great team and even though this is the first issue I love the feel of this this book.  I am not sure what I like so much about the book yet since it is only issue #1 But some of things I do like, is the great art. The wonderfull story so far, The A...

The Boys Are Back In Town!!! 0

By The Angry Comic Book Critic      Well ladies and gents the Boys are Back in Town for the first time in years we have the good old fashioned Avengers back not the New Avengers not the Mighty Avengers or the Dark Avengers and you know what this issue was pretty good all things considered I have all my favorites on this latest incarnation of the Legendary team Ironman Spider-man and even the new Captain America who now this is just my opinion is the best out of all the Captain America's to date....

Iron Man just needs a Mr Fusion 0

This issue was available for free at my comic shop this week and I think it's a brilliant idea on Marvel's part. Bendis' run on the Avengers books is about to end and people who are just learning about it for the first time (first time in a comic shop or saw the commercials for the movie) can pick up the #1 issue like I did and see if they are interested in buying the trade paperbacks. There's really only one problem with The Avengers #1 - it reads like the plot to Back to the Future Part 2. Don...
