    It was the final issue of "Atom and Hawkman" but just the start of a pattern of mental instability for Ray Palmer's then fiancee, Jean Loring. As revealed through Denny O'Neil's script and Dick Dillin's art, Jean was driven mad by the JImbreen, a subatomic race that believed she had descended from their earth - born queen. The Atom (Palmer) shrank himself and Hawkman to confront the aliens, only for both to become slaves of the new Queen Jean. Eventually the heroes freed Jean from the aliens grasp, but her sanity would not be restored until "Justice League of America #81, (June 1970).
