Watch the New Godzilla Trailer

So. Much. Epicness. What are you waiting for? Come watch the new video right now!

The first Godzilla trailer gave us a taste of the upcoming movie's tone and a glimpse of the creature. This new one, however, sheds way more light on the story and offers quite a bit of very awesome new footage. We could keep describing and praising it, but we'll shut up and let you go watch the video. You're welcome.

So, who else had their jaw dropped virtually the entire time? Godzilla is directed by Gareth Edwards and opens May 16.

No one can say Americans can't make a good Godzilla after THIS!!!!!

Also they said in the trailer Godzilla first showed up in 1954, same year as the very first Godzilla movie. They said they tried to kill him with nukes too. My theory is that in this new universe they woke up Godzilla back in 1954, they used nuclear bombs to kill it, but it didn't work and ended up causing him to slowly mutate through the years which explains why he barely showed up for 60 years. Therefore they CAN try to play it off like his attacks are natural disasters due to their infrequency. However he's finally adapted to what the radiation did to him way back when, possibly meaning he's got the Atomic Breath, and is finally going out in force.

Overall, it looks great. I'm hoping one of the central characters takes the sympathetic narrative like Raymond Burr.

@smart_dork_dude: in the trailer there was a big skeleton, maybe they did kill it and this is its baby coming for revenge >:D

Also why is NYC always attacked?

@goobot: Hmmm possibly. Like they killed Godzillas mother a long time ago and the radiation made her egg evolve into Godzilla. Or maybe it's just a monster Godzilla killed a long time ago.

I likethis theory. It's better than my theory. Like maybe he was smaller back then and the rradiation plusgrowing into his mature form made him extra powerful and big then he wakes up again. But I wonder why and where the other monsters come from. Also will Godzilla end up the good guy?

I'm ready for this, so ready.

I don't think I've ever seen everyone in agreement

Why the hell do I get the impression that over half the movie will be wasting time on the humans and their feelings and stuff rather then the king of monsters?

UGH! feelings...

I prefer a Godzilla that isn't really good or evil, just an animal that is doing what comes natural to it. If something it sees as a threat is near it'll seemingly defend humanity, but that's only because another creature is invading its territory.

As far as the other monsters, it could be they're going for a Pacific Rim styled origin for them in that they've always been there. Godzilla was the first to awaken and thanks to his rampaging the others are slowly starting to stir

I like it, don't get me wrong. but SOME of the CG to me looks too fake. and I think this is gonna have to beat Pacific Rim by a landslide to gain the public's interest. coming out less than a year apart, people will think it's a rehash of Pacific Rim, even though if you actually KNEW the story behind Pacific Rim, you'd know Del Toro made Pacific Rim as a homage to kaiju films of the 50s and 60s specifically Godzilla and other large monster movies of that era.

That makes sense. I want Godzilla to be seemingly intelligent though. I'm fine with him being of neutral alliance but he needs to be fairly smart to the extent of a dog or dolphin imo.

Are you serious? The cgi looked great all around imo. I know this is coming out so close after Pacific rim but this is Godzilla dude! Not some random giant monsters nobody has ever heard of before. That's like saying if the Shazam movie came out and 6 months later man of steel came out people wwould think superman was just a rehash of the shazam?. Godzilla is the kajui not a rehash. You can't compare the two when one has such a household name and fanbase. People will go see Godzilla just because it's Godzilla.

@those_eyes:

no, I think the CG looks great, but their is ONE tiny thing with the water scene the boats that set me the wrong way. It'll probably loo better on the big screen though. I wouldn't care, but I've been burned by CG like 100 times, and I have high hopes that this CG will be the best. and dude, hat's why I said "even though if you actually KNEW the story behind Pacific Rim, you'd know Del Toro made Pacific Rim as a homage to kaiju films of the 50s and 60s." because if you were just an average Joe, you'd think "oh, i's just a copy of pacific Rim" since Pacific Rim is the latest Monster film. but in reality, Godzilla bats all of those films, not counting King Kong though. I figured people would understand my implication but whatever. I already know someone who said they aren't going to see Godzilla because they think it's a copy of Pacific Rim, without actually caring that Pacific rim is a homage TO Godzilla, like I said before.

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. @comedy_brosusa:

Absolutely no one is going to think this is a re-hash. Godzilla is the most iconic movie monster in history. He's a household name with a thousand references and rip-offs from all genres and mediums. This movie won't suffer because of Pacific Rim. If anything Pacific Rim suffered from coming off as a Godzilla re-hash. If you know someone who has never heard of Godzilla before, he's probably been living in some sort of time space cocoon cut off from humanity since the 1940s.

At any rate, super excited about this movie. It looks like it's going to be legendary!

I'm so afraid of this turning into Cloverfield where you only see the huge rampaging monster for 2 minutes of the films.

I hope they show more monsters than humans.

The main ways they can f this up is if they focus too much on the humans and not make this primarily about Godzilla. Or they do focus on Godzilla but lowball him the entire time against the other monsters. Godzilla is meant to be the king and nothing should keep him down. If this turns into Godzilla needing help from the US to defeat the monsters I'm going to gripe.

Id argue that the film needs to focus on the characters to make you care about the movie. If the whole movie is focused on Godzilla it would be slightly boring to me. I want a storyline more than Godzilla fighting other monsters, and that has a reason behind it. I want that, but I wasnt more. Pacific Rim was awesome for what it was but I didnt give a shit about any character in that movie so it was fun and cheesy and big and cool, but I want more from this film. I want Godzilla to be frightening and a force of nature, but I for one think the way you bring out how unstoppable he is, is by creating a set of characters and a plot that makes it believable that he is truly the king of all monsters and we are just pions. These pions need to have heart to them to make it awesome when he crushes their society. IMO. If hes just smashing other monsters, there's action but no drama, and great cgi but nothing holding it up. I think Gareth Edwards and the whole creative team (hundreds of people) can do better than that.

Iwant some good story also. I said I hope they don't focus on the humans too much not, not at all. I don't need s movie named Godzilla that only has Godzilla come in fir 2 minutes because humans were the main focus. The by the way things look I think they will nail character development to bring drama. I don't want another monster smash the entire time either but it's about Godzilla of all things so its going to have to balance out.

Based on what I've read, Godzilla will fight two monsters in this movie. These creatures are known as M.U.T.O. IIRC it stands for:

Mutant

Unidentified

Target

Organism

These creatures are bug like in nature. One is a male with multiple legs (almost spider like) and the other is female and she can fly.
