UPDATE: 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Might Have a Writer Now

I can't decide if I want these new movies to focus on Han and Luke and co again or new people. As long as they're good I won't mind

Toy Story 3 is almost the best film ever so if he wrote that then im good with him, however that is an animation and also not Star Wars/ a sci-fi

Aah man the anticipation weighs heavy on my soul to see how this will turn out. I would really like to see something dealing with the Yuuzhan Vong war or maybe something farther into the future like from the comics with Cade. Who knows, man! Who knows!

Personally id like to see some New material. Surely Star Wars cant end with Luke,SInce episode 1-3 are Anakin and 4-6 are Luke, i think itd be best for a 3rd generation of Skywalker to get the screen time, Hamill and Ford could even be in it considering there age IRL and the age Han and Luke would be in the fiction.

Ah whatever, ill give it a watch, the original 3 will always be some of my favourite movies ever made, the other 3 are okay and i have a soft spot for the animated series. Why not give it to the guys writing the show? They could do some interesting things with hollywood movie cash!

This is going to be awesome, you can tell they're going for known commodities and their choice of director will be no different. :]

I am hopeful at least the script will be proof-read this time around.

I don't see how this movie can live up to expectations.

Well they sure grabbed an excellent screenwriter! Toy Story 3 is the best entry and Little Miss Sunshine was fantastic. Off to a good start!

@Batnandez: MOST kids don't know they're colorblind until they are told. Little Miss Sunshine is one of the best movies there is..

If he is writing, I have more comfort in the series continuing. I have to agree, we have to move onto the next generation of Skywalkers. It's been 35 years since the original, not hard to have it where that much time has passed. Having Luke, Han, Leia and Lando around, but much older and now the old guard leading to the new guard would be great.

I just want a movie with the old gang ( Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, R2-D2 and C3-PO ) but I think its very unlikely.

Hmmm, not familiar with the guy's work except the titles that were mentioned here. I guess I'm just going to patiently wait and see how things turn out. I am psyched for another Trilogy though...I just really hope its the Thrawn Trilogy...

@Mucklefluga: Buzz's character backstory for his toy os about space that could rival the complexities of a Star Wars like universe. All jokes aside while the animation part isn't concerning and who else knows what scripts he's written that have never seen the light of day. He could be well versed in SciFi and just waiting to break out a killer script.

Im fine with cameos, just as long as the older characters don't become the main characters but just older..I want a whole new hero, a whole new cast of supporting characters, a new villain and most importantly please no more C-3po and R2-d2. I understand they are the comic relief of the film but id rather have new characters/droids/alines provided for that.

Since this will be titled episode 7, then its more likely about luke skywalker and the new jedi order. but i do hope that there's a new main character that no one has ever heard before in comics, novels, and video games. so it will pleases old fans and at the same time there is also a feeling of brand new.

I do love all the Toy Story films and the writer for that sounds like an excellent candidate. Plenty of noteworthy projects under his belt, being an enthusiastic Star Wars expert and mentioning it in a creative writing lecture is not bad at all. And I heard an older Luke would be appearing in Episode VII

Don't care of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford reprise their roles. But...if the whole movie is going to be about them be all old and junk, I'm gonna pass. I would like them to have cameos at best, not be the focus of the new films.

I don't think Disney will let Carrie Fisher any place on the property or even speak with her track record.

That being said, the first trilogy I think is mainly going to be focused on passing the baton from the old to the new Legacy.

I think I'd rather see the new movies focus elsewhere, maybe a future generation or something. Maybe have Luke and co appear as cameos at best.

As long as it:

1.Doesn't have Jar Jar Binks.

2. Has a Darth Vader cameo

3. Has Harrison Ford play Han Solo

4. Doesn't have a big political plot

5. Has something better then Leia in her slave costume

it's all fine by me ...

As much as I love characters such as Luke and Han, I really hope they don't make the new movies about them. We have tons of comics and novels that explain what happens to them after the end of Episode VI, so instead I would rather see the new movies explore the adventures of new characters and their journey through this galaxy far, far away. 

Sounds like a good choice.  Toy Story 3 was really well written.

IN THE DIG DEEPER INTO LUKE SKYWALKER portion of this page, (top right), it says that Luke is "The son of Darth Vader and sister of Leia, hero of the rebellion, Grand Master of the New Jedi Order and the most powerful Jedi ever to live." I think you mean brother...or do you know things we don't know?

Judging from how fast it's progressing, I have a feeling it'll be coming sooner than 2015.

Ok just a question.Is John Williams still composing? It'd be a great shame to not have him on a stars film as composer.And i want the original crew in the movies as main characters with some new characters as more main characters.

the force unleashed storyline was cool but i doubt they would do that. The old republic story was awesome also. They will probably have the main characters at there current ages as guides for the new main characters

If this movie wants to be successful, it needs to keep to the PG-13 like Episode III.

Not a big fan of the old characters coming back for major roles in this one. We should know better after Indiana Jones 4. That being said, I can see Hamill playing the wise old Jedi in this one. If the movie lacks young blood that can act convincingly, it will suck just like the prequels.

How about a Joss Whedon-written/directed Star Wars? His Firefly series was a super-condensed version of Star Wars, and with his gritty camera work and excellent writing, it could be a movie worthy of the orginal trilogy. And, now that he wrote the Avengers movie, He's tied in with the Disney genepool (Disney owns the Marvel movies).
