UPDATE: 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Might Have a Writer Now

Writing the next film is going to be a big responsibility.

It was last week that news broke about Disney acquiring Lucasfilm. Part of the announcement was a new film, Episode VII coming in 2015. If that is going to happen, you know there has to have been some pre-production already underway. We've already heard rumors that actors such as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher had met with Lucas previously about the possibility of reprising their previous roles. The big question is, who will be writing the new movie?

Apparently sources have told Vulture that the leading candidate is Michael Arndt. Arndt has written Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Word is Arndt has written a 40- to 50-page treatment for the film.

We'll have to wait for an official word on whether Arndt will get the gig as well as who will be directing. Arndt as a contender makes sense given his relationship with Pixar. He's also a "Star Wars expert" and has lectured on the art of storytelling, often giving a lengthy focus on why the original Star Wars ending is so "creatively satisfying."

Update

Michael Arndt will be providing the full screenplay for the highly anticipated 2015 release.
