This Week's Essential Comics: 04/15/13

Another Wednesday, another massive pile of new comics. We'll help you narrow down the options.

Just like almost every week that has come before this one, there's a crazy amount of new issues hitting the stands on Wednesday. Seriously, just take a look at this list of this week's new comics. Now, most of us out there don't have the disposal income needed to pick up every single issue that catches our eye and narrowing down the options is never easy. That's where we, the Comic Vine staff, step in to help you out. We think the following issues will be rather awesome and believe they're worth purchasing. When all is said and done, be sure to leave a comment with your "essential comics."

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #19

No Caption Provided

After a stunning swan song from Scott Lobdell (manly tears were almost shed), James Tynion IV takes over Jason Todd's book. If you've been reading TALON, then you know this is nothing but good news for the second Robin, Starfire and Arsenal. The solicit discusses the "horrors" beneath Todd's mask, and if you've been following along, you know he was recently the victim of an acid attack from Joker. While the physical damage allegedly won't be permanent (Alfred's words in the issue), suffering a second vicious attack from the Clown Prince of Crime can certainly take a strong mental toll.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #8

No Caption Provided

It looks like the Avengers are finally seeing "Spider-Man" for who he really is -- a fake. Will they find out that it's not Parker in control? Probably not. I imagine Otto's wise enough to come up with some elaborate reason for his change in personality, but still, it'll be interesting to see the Superior Otto-Man go head-to-head with Marvel's team of A-listers and what that'll mean for his future as a hero. Besides, it looks like the octo-crawler will get a well deserved beatdown. Plus, more Cardiac!

TMNT VILLAIN MICRO-SERIES #1 KRANG

No Caption Provided

It's no secret I'm head over heels in love with IDW's work with the Ninja Turtles. The Micro-Series is a great way to give specific characters much more development, and now the publisher is giving the villains a chance to shine. Up first: Krang. This will take place after his battle with the Turtles but also dive into the Dimension X villain's past. Baxter Stockman, Old Hob and Alopex will also get their own Micro-Series issues down the road. So much win!

VENOM #34

No Caption Provided

We've waited months and the moment is finally here... it's time for Toxin vs. Venom! Yes, we previously saw the two battle during Rick Remender's time with the series, but Eddie Brock now appears to be far more than a brutish powerhouse. Throw in Declan Shalvey's amazing symbiote illustrations and this is sure to be a great time for any fan of the aliens.

X-O MANOWAR #12

No Caption Provided

Just like IDW's Ninja Turtles, I cannot say enough good things about Valiant comics. And while all of their titles are excellent for their own reasons, X-O MANOWAR is considered by myself and many others to be at the very top of the list. It's a brilliantly exciting sci-fi adventure and this is now the second chapter of brutal and emotional story, Planet Death.
