Robertson Approves of BOYS Movie

Artist confident about the possible major motion adaptation...

We’ve got a bit of a follow-up to last week’s article about the movie adaptation of the Dynamite Comics title THE BOYS. Before, we got quotes from the screenwriters regarding their attempts to make the script faithful to the comic. Now, we’ve got words straight from the title's artist and co-creator (and my fellow Comic Vine podcast guest)… Darick Robertson.

So speaks Darick…

"I had a nice meeting with the people at Kickstart [the film's producers] and they were really cool… I can say that I think it’s in good hands over there. Apparently, the first draft of the screenplay is great. They’re very happy with the first draft and everybody is very enthusiastic about it…We’ll get a draft of that to read soon, but they were very open to me saying I’d like to be involved… I feel very confident… I was enthusiastic just to hear they were being so faithful at the start… If that’s what they’re starting with, then we’re in good shape."

So faithfulness seems to be the operative word to describe THE BOYS screenplay at this stage of the game. For those of you unfamiliar with the envelope-pushing superhero satire from Robertson and Garth Ennis, here’s the official synopsis of the first volume from Dynamite…

In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone's got to make sure the "supes" don't get out of line. And someone will! Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother's Milk, The Frenchman, and The Female are The Boys: A CIA-backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth - superpower! Some superheroes have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them, sometimes, need to be taken out of the picture. That's when you call in The Boys!

Imagine that being read aloud by a guy who’s been chain smoking for 40 years and you might be close what the narration to a trailer for the film might sound like in a few years.

We’ve yet to hear Ennis’ thoughts regarding the film, of course, but how do you feel, oh puerile Comic Vine community? Are you jacked up for a BOYS movie? Does Robertson approval at this stage make you more confident that the movie will deliver?
