THE WALKING DEAD writer, Robert Kirkman, announced on Steam today that there is a new Walking Dead game coming in 2016. Kirkman and Skybound have partnered with Starbreeze and Overkill, makers of Payday 2 for this new game, entitled "Overkill's The Walking Dead." Kirkman had this to say on the Steam Community site:

I’m a huge fan of what OVERKILL and Starbreeze have been able to do with PAYDAY 2. It’s just an amazing co-operative game and I’m excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with OVERKILL to make a Walking Dead game. I’m happy to say that it’s the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for.

As of now, platforms have not been announced yet. Here's some known details about what fans can expect from this game in the future.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth, that invites players to explore the hugely popular The Walking Dead universe, where they will play the role of survivors fending for themselves in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating walkers. In 2016 Washington will fall - what will you do?

Here's the announcement trailer and message from Robert Kirkman.

The only Walking Dead gaming news I want to here is, "Telltale Games comfromes third season for the Walking Dead staring Clementine".

I'll have to see more before I'm excited for this, especially since I never played Payday 1 or 2.

While it might not be better than Telltale's game, if this is done right it will be very easy for lots of people to enjoy and favor this over the other one. People want something more action-heavy to play with friends, and Payday 2 is a very, very good game with some real depth and variety behind it. I can't wait to see what they do with this license.

Just please let it have local co-op.

I was excited when I read the title, but a "co-op first person shooter" immediately made me lose interest. Hopefully the Telltale series continues at the same time.

I really don't like the idea of a FPS game in the Comic/Novel/Game universe, just shove all that crap in the show universe. :(

Well...IDK. TDW, being so heavy on story, doesn't seem to fit well with a multiplayer-focused game. I've not played them, but watched a good amount of the Paydays. They seem to be quality and relatively creative. So, it seems like TDW is in good hands. I don't know, though. One reason why Telltale's games are so great is because they simulate the (seemingly) life changing decisions that are often such jaw droppers in the book. How is a repeating scenario in a co-op game going to simulate monumental decisions that illustrate the depravity of man and hope in the midst of utter turmoil?

Edit: However...that was a very....."Walking Dead" kind of trailer. lol, my goodness. THAT certainly won't be shown on TV.
