Megan Fox Is Protective Over Michael Turner's Fathom

Will she still star in the movie?

Megan Fox has a deep love for Michael Turner's Fathom.  Fathom first appeared in 1998.  There has been talk about adapting the comic into a movie for the past six months.  Megan Fox's name has been at the top of the list as far as starring as Aspen Matthews, the lead character.  Aspen allegedly went so far as to have an image with Megan's likeness made (seen to the left).

According to MTV, Fox's love for the character and series began at an early age.  She said she grew up reading the comic and found similarities with her that she "took safety in."

Even though actual production hasn't started yet (Fox says a script has been written and the studio is making notes on it), Fox is protective over how it gets made.

I want someone who loves her and loves the comic to play her. It doesn't have to be me, but I just didn't know of any actresses at the time who loved the comic or even knew about it. So I was sort of fiercely protective of it, because I didn't want it played by someone who doesn't give a s---.

I hate to say that part of understands where she is coming from.  Playing 'superhero' roles has been a recent desire for many Hollywood actors.  While having a competent actor in key roles is crucial, I feel that they should have some knowledge over the role they may be taking on.  I'm not saying they have to be an obsessive fanboy but they should at least know what makes the character tick.  Taking on a role of a well known character shouldn't be just another job for them.  If someone is going to breathe life into a character, it helps to know more than what the lines on a script might tell them.

As far as a Fathom movie, I can't say that I have a firm opinion on who should play Aspen.  I suppose Megan bears some similarities to Aspen.  If things work out with her schedule and the studio's, perhaps she could put her enthusiasm into the character.

What are your thoughts?  Are you following Aspen's adventures?  Do you think Megan has the acting skills to play the role?  Do you think Megan has the power to manipulate water like Aspen (I'm not sure what similarities she was insinuating they shared)?  Do you think movie-goers will flock to see this movie?
