I couldn't begin suggesting any stories, it's impossible for me to narrow it down to just 75. One thing's certain, this book will be mine as soon as it becomes available.

Runaways, please! It may not be iconic, but was still an excellent story that was different from regular Marvel Stuff. Also, Age of Apocalypse.

My 5 picks and reasons for why they should be included:

1. Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt (1987) - This comic acted as a response to DC's darker and more mature stories of the 80s, and what's more, showed that supposedly silly Silver-age villains like Kraven the Hunter could be relevant and compelling when in the hands of a competent writer with a unique vision.

2. The Death of Captain Marvel (1982)- Other that being being Marvel's first ever graphic novel (an incredibly influential move shown by the popularity of OGNs today), Jim Starlin crafted a tale which explored a mature and powerful take on the standard superhero death.

3. Silver Surfer: Parable (1988) - One of the few American collaborations with comic art legend Moebius, this cosmic tale delved into themes of religious oppression and free speech, and stands as one of the greatest Silver Surfer comics ever created.

4. Daredevil: Born Again (1986) - The high point of Frank Miller's incredible run, Born Again is one of the most brutal, uncompromising looks at a hero's fall ever seen in the medium, featuring beautiful art and an endlessly quotable script.

5. Marvels (1994) - Acting a love letter to the classic Marvel tales of the Golden Age, combined with a revolutionary photorealistic art style and clever writing, Marvels is truly a masterpiece with some of the most iconic panels in modern comics.

All five of these picks are in myFavourite Comics of All Time list which I made on Comic Vine just a couple of weeks ago.

This is a really good list. 3 of which I was going to put in my top 5 (Born Again, Kraven's Last Hunt, and Parable). I was also going to add Spider-Man: Blue because it is a more heartfelt story that balances against some of the darker themed Marvel stories (especially Born Again). I think the other has to be either Secret Wars or The Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga just because of molds they broke in the comic industry.

Reminds me that I still need to read Spider-Man: Blue and Dark Phoenix Saga !

So many great suggestions here. Love to see Jason Aaron's Thor included in so many. I agree with most of the lists people posted here though I'm not quite sure about the Ultimate stuff. I know there are some great stories there as well, but isn't it kind of weird to have two different origins of, let's say, Spidey in the same Omnibus?

My entry:

Fantastic Four vol. 1 #51: "This Man.. This Monster!"

BEST single issue story in the formative years of marvel. It was so great that Lee & King Kirby chose it as a follow-up issue to the epic introduction of Galactus in FF #48-50.

Gonna send it right now! I hope it gets picked

@nahuel:

Wow DC fanboy to the max overhere. Maybe they would include that if DC comics period didn't suck for the last oh say 5 years.

What can i say that wasn't already mentioned that should be included in this book? Well the Fantastic Four/Namor crossover technically building the first comic book shared universe seems pretty important part of Marvel history. First appearences of great characters. Anything that got controversy like Kravens Last Hunt or bad controversy like One More Day. Major moments in a characters life like the birth of the FF kids, Gwen Stacys death, Superior Spider-Man,Tony's alcholism etc.

@captainmarvel4ever Maybe try to find a way to get this since it would help you on your Marvel history that you find so confusing.

I'm pretty sure he was just kidding. Calm down.

Plenty of good storys or single issues could go in. But I think its more important marvel learn from their mistakes aswell:

(In no particular order)

Every Jean Grey Resurrection story after the original

One More Day

Red Hulk

Hulked Out Heroes

Marvel Apes

AvX

Ultimatum

Chaos War

All the stories where Squirrel Girl beats Thanos, dr doom etc

That Story where Norman Osborn had sex with Gwen Stacy while she was dating Peter Parker

Trouble

The Amazing Spiderman 700

That story where the all the mutants got depowered by High Evolutionary (House of M didn't do it first)

Onslaught

Heroes Reborn!

Teenage Tony Stark

Maggot Debut!

That Grant Morrison New X-Men issue where Magneto send human's to be gassed in a concentration camp built in Central Park (Oh Yes Its happened! and marvel spent years trying pretend it wasn't magneto)

The entire Chuck Austin run on x-men and Avengers!

the spider mobile

Every Fantastic Four story where Reed cured Ben only for ben to choose to become the thing again

Every story where Bruce banner cured/separated himself of the hulk

That issue of Fantastic Four where everyone got turned into the thing

Those issues of Fantastic Four where Susan turned into an alien

The time Scarlet Witch and Vision had human children

Captain America Vol 4 (Aka the Post 9/11 Merica F*** YH run)

Ultimate Adventure

the Transformers/New Avengers cross over!

The Clone Saga

Every story where wolverine has lost his healing powers

Ultimate Comics the Ultimates: President Cap Merica F*** YH

That period where wolverine had no nose
Every Issue where Professor X regained the ability to walk

Every Issue where Professor X got crippled

Any other suggestion to hall of shame?

This is a really great idea by Marvel.

I won't send this in yet, but this is everything that I thought of at first:

First appearances of major characters (so Amazing Fantasy #15, Fantastic Four #1, Journey into Mystery #83, Tales of Suspense #39, The Incredible Hulk #1, X-Men #1, Giant Sized X-Men #1, Captain America Comics #1, The Avengers #1, & Daredevil #1)

  • X-Men: The Phoenix Saga
  • X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past
  • Captain America: Winter Soldier
  • Civil War
  • House of M
  • Ultimate Spider-Man (I can’t pick just one arc)
  • The Ultimates
  • The Ultimates 2
  • Thor: The God Butcher
  • Thor: Godbomb
  • Infinity Gauntlet
  • The Kang Dynasty
  • The Night Gwen Stacy Died
  • Fantastic Four #48, 49, & 50/The Galactus Trilogy
  • Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe
  • Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut
  • The Punisher: Welcome Back Frank
  • X-23: Innocence Lost
  • X-23: Target X
  • Thor #337-340
  • Secret Wars
  • Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra
  • The Immortal Iron First: The Last Iron Fist Story
  • Fantastic Four Annual #2

There are other things I’d like to include, such as Stan Lee’s run on Spider-Man or Frank Miller’s run on Daredevil, but those are just too long to be included.

Funny thing is, I haven't actually read 95% of the most famous Marvel stuff. From what I have read, they should put in:

Dark Phoenix Saga

Original Avengers issues

Secret Wars

Ultimate Spider-Man (anything)

First half of Civil War (hate the second half)

Captain America Reborn

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (anything)

Superior Spider-Man

Waid Daredevil (anything)

Anything Deadpool

Thor: God of Thunder

@nahuel Get out.

@cap10nate: Busiek's Avengers run may be the best Avengers series ever. It's too bad it didn't get much recognition since it was in the wrong time period (right around the time Marvel went bankrupt). I would have added Ultron Unlimited as well but I didn't want my list to be too long (even though it's fine to have a top 75 list).

This is a perfect opportunity to make a sole tribute masterpiece to Deadpool.

Jokes aside, I agree with this list:

And here's my choices:

1. Infinity Gauntlet

2. Annihiliation

3. Thanos Quest

4. Ultimates 2

5. Days of Future Past

6. Thanos Imperative

7. Avengers Forever

8. Ultimates 1

9. Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect

10. Wolverine: Enemy of the State

11. Kang Dynasty

12. Death of Captain Marvel

13. Kraven's Last Hunt

14. Astonishing X-Men (Joss Whedon)

15. Infinity

16. Thor: God Bomb

Being a Thor fan (soz) I'd add JMS' Thor run but that's just me being biased.

They could add the first-appearance issues of some of their most well known characters but that's most likely a long-shot.

Either way I'm faced with either buying this or being able to eat for a living. Tough choice.

Let's see, all the major characters and teams should have their origin issue in, some newer work with stuff like Deconnicks Captain Marvel, Gillian and Ewings Loki, All-new X-men, Miles Morales, and maybe the new Ms. Marvel.

Event or story wise, I have a list.

Dark Phoenix Saga

Dark Angel Saga

Planet Hulk/World War Hulk

Annihilation

Spider-Island

And etc.

@nukea6 well that's what I would love too, including:

Wow, seriously? See, this is why Marvel is taking my money while DC is giving my money back lol. I'm not big on the Marvel Vs. DC rivalry, but I mean really? I feel like Marvel cares just a little more right now. I'm hoping Futures End will get DC back on track, but I just don't know. :P
