"Watchmen" was a really good movie but was disappointing for some. It's been reported that Monday, just after midnight in Eugene, Oregon, a 24-year-old man decided to shoot himself while watching the movie. There were about ten others in the theater and about halfway through the movie when they heard a "popping" noise. At the back of the theater, the man was found with a gunshot wound to his head. When police arrived, he was dead.
So what the heck is going on here? The obvious scenario is the man was troubled. Sure we could try to joke that the movie ticket price drove him to it or the movie was too long but maybe we shouldn't go there. He must have had the intention to do so before entering the theater. The fact that he brought a gun would make me think so unless he simply carried it around all the time. But who kills themselves in a movie theater? There's also the fact that there were others in the theater with him. He was sitting in the back. Thankfully, he didn't get the urge to try to take anyone with him before turning the gun on himself. It's a scary thought. It's just too bad the guy didn't have anyone to turn to before making such a drastic decision.
