A strange development in the New 52 is the fact that the Justice League has kept a lock on their roster. Since the attack by Darkseid, the team has been Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern and Cyborg. We've seen Green Arrow do his best to get the team to let him join but they were pretty adamant about not letting him join. We also saw a flashback that they tried to recruit Martian Manhunter but that encounter went poorly.
With Throne of Atlantis, the team has found themselves at the mercy of Ocean Master and his Atlantean army. Cyborg saw no choice. They apparently had a list of candidates but he felt forced to open the ranks.
Be warned, this will spoil the final page of this week's JUSTICE LEAGUE #16. You do need to see the events that lead up to this (along with the Shazam back up).
Some of these make sense. Green Arrow has been working with Steve Trevor and we know he'll be a member in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. Hawkman will also be in that book. In BATMAN INCORPORATED #1 it was mentioned that Element Man was in the League but we say Element Woman in that final page in the NEW 52 FREE COMIC BOOK DAY issue. Vixen was part of JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL and Zatanna is in JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK. We see that Black Lightning, Shazam, Goldrush, Black Canary and Firestorm will also be joining.
This also tells us that the back ups with Shazam must be happening before the current stories for them to have an idea who he is.
Will these members stay on the team? Will Batman or the others dismiss them after they are no longer needed? We'll have to stay tuned to future issues to see how this affects the team and series.
