It's Monkey Madness in this New Batch of DCU Online Pics!

And have you looked at all the actors they've got voicing this game?

I figure that saying about putting lipstick on a pig works just about the same for putting a cape on an ape.

One of the enduring oddities in this crazy business we call the comics industry is the notion that a comic will sell more if it’s got a gorilla on the cover. The thinking led to a lot of apes showing up on covers in the 50s (even if they didn’t actually appear in the issue itself) and it led to that bizarre JLApe fifth-week event from a few years back. I wonder if the same conditions apply to the vidya games, because this latest batch of screenshots from DCU Online Bleeding Cool's collected has got more simians than even Dian Fossy could probably handle. If you peruse all the photos below, you’ll see Flash and some unnamed, player-created heroes battling Gorilla Grodd, Solovar and a whole whoop of armed and dangerous gorillas. I’m squinting, but I can’t seem to see the Ultra-Humanite anywhere in the fray.

After years of build-up, the game’s finally hitting shelves at the beginning of November. I haven’t been paying too much attention to it because my computer would probably cough up some blood trying to handle an MMO but, after a little snooping online, I found out that this game’s got a hell of a cast for the voices. Like seriously… Powers Boothe is voicing Grodd and JLU-alum Michael Rosenbaum is back as Flash. They’ve got players from the BATMAN animated series like Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, as well ones who've done turns in DC Animated DVDs like Adam Baldwin as Supes and Gina Torres as Wonder Woman. They even have news names like butt-kicking ballerina Summer Glau as Supergirl and two of the scariest villains in movie history - - Robert "T-1000" Patrick and Tony "Candy Man" Todd - - voicing Hawkman and Darkseid

See what I mean?

Marv Wolfman wrote the script for this game and after seeing these, I feel like sharing that I had the very surreal opportunity to fight against him as one of his own characters recently. We were playing MORTAL KOMBAT VS. DCU at LA’s monthly Video Game Saturday. I was controlling Green Lantern and he was controlling Deathstroke, whom he created with George Perez during their seminal TEEN TITANS run. Even though he beat me (I let him win, I swear!) he was keen to point out that GL could never lose to Slade Wilson in the actual DCU - - which, I suppose, made the loss even more humiliating!
