Image Comics NYCC 2012 Announcements

The publisher discussed creator projects from Jonathan Hickman, Jim McCann, and many other comic book creators.

Over the weekend IMAGE Comics made several announcements regarding their future projects during their Saturday panel at New York Comic Con. If you are a fan of creator owned comics and are a fan of the work of writers like Kieron Gillen, Andy Diggle, Jim McCann and Jonathan Hickman, then you are in luck. The panel revealed a whole lot of new titles coming from these creators through Image which are bound to pique the interest of many of their fans. The panel was led by Image Comics publisher Eric Stephenson.

Kieron Gillen and Ryan Kelly will be collaborating on a book titled THREE, which Gillen described as a book about free slaves on the run in Sparta. Next is a series titled SNAPSHOT by Andy Diggle and Jock which is set in San Francisco and is about a man who works at a comic book shop who stumbles upon a cell phone that contains images of a gruesome murder. The phone apparently belongs to a hit man who (for obvious reasons) wants to get it back.

Other projects coming from Image include another team-up between Janet K. Lee and Jim McCann (who previously worked together on RETURN OF THE DAPPER MEN) in a new book titled LOST VEGAS about a casino in outer space.

Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta are teaming up for the release of EAST OF WEST, a story about a "future sci-fi western" featuring the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. That series is set to hit stores sometime in April of 2013.

Obviously, Image has a lot of upcoming books they are working on; and for fans of creator owned work, this is definitely a lot to be excited about in the coming year. What do you think of the news? Do any of these titles pique your interest? Which book, if any, are you most looking forward to?
