Hitman Monkey Faces Off Against Deadpool

Bad idea or REALLY bad idea?

Geek Chic Daily reported this morning more mind-blowing information on the most exciting new character to ever hit Marvel: Hitman Monkey. This assassin Gibbon will be making his non-online debut in an upcoming Deadpool issue.

He’ll tangle with hot mercenary du jour Deadpool in issue #19 in February, but you can check out an exclusive origin, uh, tale tomorrow on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited from writer Daniel Way and artist Dalibor Talijic with a cover by Frank Cho.

So will the Hitman Monkey and the Jokester Merc be able to be friends, or mortal enemies? Only time will tell!  Luckilly, they're introducing the character in one of Marvel's biggest books, so most Marvel-fanatics will know who this Gibbon is.
This seems like a joke, right? Well, I'll bet you'll be happy to know this character actually started out as a one-liner joke.

The whole thing sounds like a joke. And that’s exactly how it started. Editor Axel Alonso tells GCD that the inspiration for the character came from a random photo of a monkey “drowning” a guy that had been captioned “Hitman Monkey finds no joy in his job.” Says Alonso, “It cracked the f--- out of me. I just thought it was the funniest thing I’d ever seen. And I thought, ‘Man, you know, that’d make a great comic book!’”

Photo of monkey drowning a guy: Funny. Taking that joke and making it into a monkey hitman... I don't feel too confident with that. Yes, I know I'm being a bit judgmental, which is something I complained about in another article, but does anyone think this is a good idea? Is anyone excited about this book? What am I missing?

Hitman Monkey is currently on Marvel Digital Comics Ulimited (which you need a subscription to access) and will hit your local comic book store Wednesday,  Feb 19th.
