Frank Tieri takes Red Sonja to THE BLACK TOWER

Find out about the new mini-series coming in September.

Press Release

Join fan favorite writer Frank Tieri (SAVAGE WOLVERINE, DEADPOOL), artist extraordinaire Cezar Razek (RED SONJA/ WITCHBLADE), and captivating cover artist Amanda Conner (HARLEY QUINN), as they tell a decades spanning, mind-blowing tale that could spell the end for our favorite She-Devil with a Sword in Red Sonja: The Black Tower #1. Look for Red Sonja: The Black Tower #1 in stores and digitally this coming September!

In Red Sonja: The Black Tower #1, the question is posed; what is the Black Tower? What startling mysteries does it contain within its walls? And most will its very existence cause the death of Red Sonja?!

"Simply put, THE BLACK TOWER is an old fashioned mystery-and as we all know, everybody loves a mystery," says writer Frank Tieri. "In fact, I'd say at times, this story is more in line with a Stephen King story than your typical Sonja tale. The Tower just appears out of nowhere one day-nobody knows why, nobody knows how. People are scared, they're confused-and they start turning on each other. That's when Red Sonja enters the picture. And what she finds is mystery that will span decades, which will pit people against each other, that will cost many lives… including her own. Now, I think that's a story fans will want to see how it turns out, don't you? I like that she's this total bad ass-that she's the WOLVERINE of her world, that she's The Man With No Name-- but she's also a woman. Because you don't often see that. You don't often see it being a woman that walks into a bar and everybody tenses up, everybody pees their pants. And in Sonja's case, if you underestimate her, if you just dismiss her as ‘just a woman'-she's going to make you pay for it. And then some."

"Frank brings his rough and tumble writing to Red Sonja, to create a no-holds-barred adventures of thrills, twists and grit." - Joseph Rybandt, Dynamite Senior Editor

"Gail Simone's Red Sonja series has received so many accolades, we have been very selective about our Red Sonja series or specials," adds Dynamite CEO / Publisher Nick Barrucci. "But when Frank pitched this mini-series to me, I knew that this would be a perfect stand-alone mini-series. And having Amanda on covers is icing on the cake!"

Frank Tieri has written New Excalibur, Wolverine (and its spin-off, a short-lived Weapon X ongoing series), Underworld, a post Avengers Disassembled Hercules mini-series, Wolverine/Darkness, Dracula versus Apocalypse, Civil war: War crimes, as well as World War Hulk: Gamma Corps for Marvel Comics. For DC, he has written a JSA Classified story, as well as Countdown tie-ins Lord Havok and the Extremists and Gotham underground. His style is gritty, yet usually laden with pop-culture references and black humor.

Red Sonja: The Black Tower #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' July Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in September 2014. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Red Sonja: The Black Tower #1 with their local comic book retailers. Looking forward to it. The preview pages look great.

Thought it was the Dark Tower.

Could use a slightly different name, maybe Black Citadel, kinda misleading.

Dang for a second I was thinking of of The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Would have been awesome though.

I thought this was going to be a cross-over when I first started reading it. Lol.

Same. I almost fell off my bed until I saw "Black" instead of "Dark". Pity...

I"m assuming this is the same Black Tower in Conan lore? It sounds like it.
