First Look: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5 Dynamic Forces Exclusive Cover

Angela's making her way into the Marvel Universe and this is where she starts off.

No Caption Provided

Back in March, Marvel announced that Angela, created by Neil Gaiman and appearing in SPAWN #9, would be making her way into the Marvel Universe. If you read AGE OF ULTRON #10, you have an idea how this becomes possible.

Angela will make her presence known in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5, written by Brian Michael Bendis and Neil Gaiman. Since this is kind of a big deal, you might want to pick up the issue.

If you're into variants and exclusive covers, Dynamic Forces is offer an exclusive variant cover, currently on pre-order for $14.99. The comic will later revert to the regular MSRP of $29.99 after August 1st. Oh, and the cover is by Mike Deodato. So that's pretty cool.

You can check out the ordering information here:

DynamicForces.com

If you like the exclusive variants, they also have other comics such as X-MEN #1, X-FILES SEASON 10 #1, IRON MAN #9 Variant 9.8 CGC Graded, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1 Variant 9.8 CGC Graded and DANGER GIRL: TRINITY #1 J. Scott Campbell Variant.

I think marvel should give angela a fairly large role in the marvel universe. I think it's cool. But Bendis still pretty much sucks.

To say "Angela" won't fit sounds an awful lot to me like that GOTG Old Guard showing further disatisfaction at the direction the current run is taking.

Yes I get it, Bendis is doing a pretty terrible job with the series, I also have a high distaste for the New Look and feel of the series (Really don't like Sam Alexander either)

But this is a universe where there are a wide multitude of background and types, from the Olympian Gods to the Mindless Ones of Dormammu's realm, there is just about everything.

To say Angela is a "weak" character also shows an entire lack of knowledge of the character, have any of you actually sat down and read the older Spawn comics 1-100? The Angela 3 book ministry or the one shot that went to reprint a record breaking number of times? A Character that actually won awards and gave Neil Gaiman his acclaim? And this was all during the 90's, a much stronger time in Comic competition than it is now.

Yes they will likely have to change her backstory to cater since she can no longer be a Hellspawn Bounty Hunting Angel due to copyright issues, they will likely have to gloss over the glass city of Elysium and never speak of her intimacy with Al Simmons ever again.

But that wasn't what made Angela great for her time, she is unique in her attitude, unique in her style, quite possibly one of the biggest breakout Female characters since Wonder Woman and Ms Marvel.

Do I think putting her on the Guardians is a good move? In absolute honesty, I don't know. I just don't feel it is the right fit for her, Angela has always been more about her own skill than relying on others, but I could be wrong and she might breath life back into a currently flagging series, which is what Marvel seem to be looking at.

In all honesty I think Angela being around could be good business for the Occult side of Marvel, it's been looking a little pasty for some time with Dr Strange, Magik or Ghost Rider being the big trio that come to mind, perhaps with Angela around and her headstrong nature, always willing to leap into the middle of insane odds and come out on the other side covered in demon innards laughing about it could really put an interesting spin and could even lead to a new Defenders series.

Time will tell where Marvel and Neil Gaiman take Angela, but for now it's best to give her and the Guardians at least a chance before Bandwagon dismissing what has always been an extrodinary character that carved a name for herself in the dog eat dog climate of the 90's.

P.S: Lest we forget McFarlane screwed Gaiman, not the other way around.

So full of win.

In my opinion, Angela in the Marvel Universe is like a square peg in a round hole, it just doesn't fit. She is not even that strong of a character. What is her origin in this universe? Lawsuits prevent me from revealing my true origin!

Sadly in all honesty I do not give a single crap about Angela the character. I am however intrigued by Gaiman on the book, wondering how much he will actually being so. Love all his novels and Sandman.

The only reason she is here is because Gaiman brought her. Spawn is not coming. Gaiman won the rights to Angela in a lawsuit with Todd McFarlane. Spawn is still a McFarlane/Image character and he's going to stay there.

I think it's so stupid they're bringing her into the Marvel Universe, all over a little tiff (well , maybe more than a tiff but I think bringing her to Marvel is still dumb) with Todd McFarlane. She is a Spawn-Killer... from the Spawn Universe, not Guardians of the Galaxy.

Is this a big deal? I don't understand all this hype.

Also $14.99, marked down from $29.99?!

This scene didn't demean Gamora at all. No, she put Tony in his place and freaking eviscerated his hyper-masculinity and deflated his misogynistic ways.

its not f##king misogynistic to get laid on a regular basis, especially when ones life style does not lend itself to serious ongoing relationships.

and it sure as hell would not have demeaned her if she had enjoyed it and it had been normal enjoyable sex.

men are not f##king beneath women, its does not lessen or demean them to sleep with us for fun.

your mindset is a thousand times more sexist than what your fighting against.

your mindset on this is the exact kind of shit that makes young women think its ok to mock and torment shy and non outgoing guys in school ""i bet your a faggot who cant get it up and even if you could you would never please me cus your beneath me"" that kind shit.

you are a horrible sexist hateful person.

Not exited at all about this... i dropped the series after issue 2, and this gimmick just makes me thankful of dropping it

Is she going to hunt Wolverine in outerspace for messing around with time travel and bringing her to "this dimension"? MEH

I think Marvel are miscalculating the import of this. Very few people care. Still, if well written it could work. Bendis's record writing women does not fill me with optimism.

I was a big Spawn fan back in his Al Simmons days, I'm pretty pumped to see Angela make an appearance here. Sadly, my pull list budget is full and Guardians isn't a title I want to buy simply for her character alone. Still pretty cool though.

Also, let's be honest, NO ONE cares Angela is in Marvel. No one was even talking about that character or asking for her to appear again before it was revealed she was coming to Marvel. Marvel is really hyping a side character from 90's Spawn, and no one really cares.

It is generating a lot of talk though in the community, that's always positive. But yeah, still reluctant.
