Evangeline Lilly in talks for 'Ant-Man'

What character would she be?

No Caption Provided

We haven't heard much Ant-Man news since it was announced Michael Douglas would play Hank Pym and Paul Rudd would be Scott Lang.

Apparently we missed the news that Edgar Wright brought on Michael Pena for an undisclosed role.

The Hollywood Reporter has the latest. Evangeline Lilly is in talks to "star as the female lead" in the movie. Before you get excited, that doesn't necessarily mean Janet Van Dyne, aka the Wasp. It's possible but with Scott Lang as the lead male, well, we'll have to wait and see how the story plays out.

The Hollywood Reporter also mentions that this is not intended to be a "one-off appearance." That means if she does land the role, we could expect to see more of her in a sequel or other Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

What are your thoughts?

Since this movie is supposed to be a heist film i hope he ends up getting the time gem which hits hank pym and makes him young again. This is the only acceptable outcome for this movie.

she ruined Lost for me as much as Lana ruined smallville , but I didnt even know it was her in Hobbit2 till the credits.

But yes I also think Wasp. Even if she is another character, she'll be Wasp & eventually join the Avengers with whichever Ant-Man is in the same time period as the rest.

wow she ruined lost for you? did we watch the same show? i thought she was great,,,agree to disagree

If she was wasp than that would make it real awkward with Douglas as Pym? still not sold on his casting as pym, sort of seems like pym is getting pushed aside.

oh imagine, and this is probably a bit far fetched. Young hank pym experimented with pym particles etc, wanted to involve janet, but problems occured and she shrunk so small she vanished off the face of the earth. But shes actually trapped in the microverse, she doesnt age and for the film returns to earth in modern times. Id love it if this happened, means we could still have wasp young and epic as ever :D

maybe I'm remembering this wrong, but wasn't there originally a big age difference between Hank and the Wasp? She was the daughter of one of his colleagues, and he was attracted to her because she looked just like his first wife who was deceased (Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor style).

I wouldn't be surprised if that origin has been ret-conned since, but I'm pretty sure that's how the original story went.

According to the official Marvel Handbook Jan is a lot younger than Hank, something like 15-20 age different.

You want to know the most likely reason? The one that's most likely sticking in their minds? The reason that they are worried about being thrown up and mentioned in every article had they gone with Hank Pym as they should have? This is the reason:

Even today, this is still a defining moment of his character, what he's still remembered for. They probably didn't go with Hank Pym because of that. Whereas Scott Lang is known as a thief with a heart of gold whose daughter died.

I agree with the part about that being why. And I think that ignoring the fact that people always focusing on this instead of something that wasn't over resolved and dealt with in a few issues (like how the freaking Avengers was his idea), Ant-Man Season 1 was more than able to give him a personality without even implying it. Why nobody can pull their head out of their ass and move the fuck on is beyond me.

I feel like Evangeline Lilly is likely to be Hank's SHIELD handler who ends up trying to get back the tech Scott Lang steals but ends up working with him. If that character is Janet van Dyne I'm okay with that because I'll buy her working with Thor, Cap and Iron Man more than either Michael Douglas or Paul Rudd.

Does Marvel always have to make safe choices when it comes to casting?! Come on Marvel shake up it bit. Michael Douglas was a good start, now find somebody else who wouldn't fit the bill or make people flip out (basically every DC/WB casting so far I guess).

If Ant-Man is Scott Lang, then maybe she will be playing Jessica Jones.

They won't,unless Iron Fist and Cage are actually in it. Like in that episode of the Avengers where Ed Wright tweeted "Homework".

@jonny_anonymous: It's Marvel they have a little habit of making their comics to look like the movies when it should be backwards. There are a few examples Captain America becoming once again the man out of time, Loki look in his new comic, Tony Stark now is magically RDJ, Hawkeye new costume inpired by the movie (although is his costume in the Ultimate Universe recolored in the 616 version), 616 Nick Fury has disappeared being replaced by a copy of the movie version (based again in the Ultimate Universe) who claims to be his son and curiously has an eye patch in the same eye than him. And on top of that you get all the variant covers featuring the movie version of the team.

Like in here (even though Black Widow didn´t even appeared in this issue) to atract movie fans to read the comics.

I'm betting that she's been cast as Wasp, which is exciting because I love all the members of the Ant-Family. I wonder if Cassie will make an appearance here? Hope so, a Young Avengers Movie/TV show would be awesome (tv show is probably the best direction for it.).

Not a fan of Lost but she seems she would fit in pretty good as well as pretty herself. Better then Natalie Portman. Hopefully they have a good way of adapting Wasp. How can they not include her if she was the original female avenger? Otherwise I would say shes a SHIELD agent of some sort but Im doubting it since they cant even make the Agents of SHIELD show interesting. If she doesnt show up as either of those characters I wouldnt expect her to have another Marvel role in any other movies.

@marcosvergara14: Yea, I know. I just said over in the thread about the female Dr Doom in the new FF movie, that Marvel will now bring back Lucia Von Bardas and make her the new Dr Doom as that is exactly something them would do.

Than that makes them total cowards for not being able to face up to that or even incorporating it in to the film.

I didn't expect you to like it. I was merely attempting to explain how they might do it. I wouldn't want them to, I doubt they'd dare, but there was a time I doubted we'd ever get an Ant Man movie at all. There was a time I doubted they'd use any Ant Man than Hank Pym. There was a time I doubted they'd ever make a Fantastic Four movie with a black Johnny Storm. There was a time I doubted Jesse Eisenberg would play Lex Luthor.

Point is: How we feel about what they do clearly isn't a factor in whether or not they do it.

her age is dependent on his though...everyone seems to think that because Hank will be old in the movie universe that means that we won't get to see Wasp....I don't see the problem here at all....what does it matter if he's old? That doesn't effect her character at all

I could see how it would effect her character considering they're always shipped together. They might be divorced now and seeing other people but they'll always have that Clark/Lois feel from most fans. An old Hank and a young Janet just doesn't seem right.

After the movie in Marvel Comics: Hank Pym is magically aged up in Avengers A.I now he is in a wheel chair, by his age he tell Janet the can no longer be together, Janet being sad by they break up looks for comfort in the most alike man in the Marvel Universe and that is how se finds Scott Lang she helps him to overcome the death of his daughter and they fall in love but the relationship is cut by Hank Pym being very sick. In his last breath he gives them his bless in their relationship, he tells Janet to be with the one she truly loves. And then he dies. A year later they have a son which they call Hank in his honor.

Wasp is Hank's daughter, mutated into her powers due to his experiments/exposure to Pym Particles before he developed a way to harness them. She'll attempt to recover the stolen suit in Pym's stead using her powers, then joins up with Scott for some reason. Over the course of the movie, her and Scott will hook up. Eventually, this will result in the birth of Cassie.
