Good, Marvel never did anything right with it and Dynamite has been quality the whole time.

Very cool. Now Dynamite can cut loose. I'm curious though, what about Burroughs other property, Tarzan? Dynamite was making comics for a short time but they were forced to stop. Does the relationship with ERB Inc. mean something could happen there as well?

This is some surprisingly good news. Last time I heard I thought Dynamite was facing some proccess from ERB Inc. over character rights. I believe the company didn't like the way Dejah Thoris was depicted in such racy manner in their comics so they put a sue on Dynamite. I guess things worked out on its own.

Isn't she just depicted as the same in the books? I seem to remember her being described as just having wearing a necklace.

@jonny_anonymous: Yeah, it's just a bit more noticeable in the comics. ERB originally used it to show how alien they were compared to the conservative Edwardians and was probably inspired by the stories of semi-naked tribes at the time.

Yep. yet ERB charged that the Dynamite work was “pornographic” and threatened to permanently damage the Edgar Rice Burrough’s reputation.

That's silly, they are just putting in to pictures what ERB wrote.

You guys have to admit some of those covers were pretty racy. Dejah's comic wasn't one most people would carry around in public without feeling a little uncomfortable.

But in the novels the characters don't wear any clothes just necklaces like a native tribes would so if anything she's less naked in the comic.

Trust me, I get it. But it's comics and there being variant covers showcasing just Dejah nude in very suggestive positions for most of the issues released must make a few people uncomfortable in the ERB camp. I did try to read some books of hers but I couldn't stomach how the women were depicted compared to the men. Each were barely disguised replicas of Dejah herself, but with different hairstyles and worse, just standing or lying about, looking ready for "action" and not the fighting kind. Had the stories been good (my opinion, of course), I might have pulled through.

I think the book would do better if it had an M rating. Just own up to it being filled with gratuitous female nudity and have at it. The only thing standing in the way are her nipple covers and extremely barely there thong.

Again all this is from the books, all the comic is doing is putting it in to pictures.

Dejah is rarely standing and when she is, it's not exactly a power stance unless it's a legs spread apart, hips tilted kind of way. Or legs pressed together with arms high above. I know I am coming off combative but really, I am not trying to be. To insist a book from the early part of the 20th century mandated a future comic book present its female characters artistically like Dejah has been (and other females) is a bit of a stretch. Naked, okay. Mars is hot. Makes sense. But you can show nude and not make it sexually charged. Dynamite deliberately made the books of John Carter and Dejah appeal to fans in such a way. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. What sells, sells. It's just I can't quite fit the idea people over at Dynamite were keeping true to the books' roots when they hired and instructed artists to lay it out in comic form and by doing so, are now being unfairly accused of "pornographic" imagery. So what, you know? Just own up to it.

If anything, it was because of Dynamite John Carter and Dejah and their world are popular still to this day. It's a bit of the mouth biting the hand that fed it. Eddy B. did make the women naked. His camp can't claim innocence either.

TBH even if Dynamite actually had her nude in all the comics, I'd still rather carry one of them around than a manga. Japan's tamer stuff is usually more "pervy" than an american product.

So female martians are naked, I assume females in Tarzan barely wear anything, but how about the females on Venus?

As for ERBInc, I knew about Dejai being naked the entire time LONG before Dynamite.

Great to hear some more of Dejah Thoris is coming out.
