Free Comic Book Day is fast approaching. On May 5, 2012, comic stores and publishers are joining together to deliver free comics to readers. Each year, publishers up the game in delivering quality content. No one wants to see a simple 'free' reprint of something that's been out for a while. More and more we're seeing top quality stories and art that lead into big events in existing titles.
Today DC Comics unveiled the Jim Lee cover to their free comic, DC COMICS - THE NEW 52, via their newly designed website.
Besides the cover, Lee will also illustrate five pages for the interior, including a four-page gatefold to go along with a brand new story by Geoff Johns. WIth Pandora on the cover, you know all eyes will be on this issue.
Lee also provided custom art for the Free Comic Book Day t-shirt with the Justice League paying homage to a classic piece by José Luis García-López.
The other thing to keep in mind with Free Comic Book Day, the comics might be free to you but comic there is a cost to make and distribute them. Comic retailers actually have to pay for them plus pay shipping costs. So when you visit your local comic shop on May 5, remember to be thankful and perhaps pick up a trade or some other comics in gratitude.
