BEFORE WATCHMEN: MOLOCH #1 is on sale November 7 and issue #2 on sale December 26.

Hmm...Makes sense he'd get his own Title in the BW line.

worth a shot.

but as ive said before Alan Moore is my Idol, i would not go against him to buy other people tarnishing his legendary work(no matter how good it is)

Risso is always so good. He should have worked with Azzarello instead.

Wow, they really are milking Before Watchmen for every angle that deserves further coverage, aren't they? Still, I liked Moloch and would love to check this out.

Part of me is really starting to wish Alan Moore was the kind of guy who'd go down to DC's office and beat the out of DiDio, Lee and co.

This is just further evidence of the complete lack of integrity of those in charge at the company these days.

Why is everybody keep listing pointless titles like Nixon and Rorschach's mom/shrink? Molach actually had an important role with the Minutemen and the Watchmen in general. He was one of their major baddies.

Seconded. :P

I feel the series is gimmicky enough without adding even MORE titles...

Some of them are pretty good, but meh.

Expect solo series for all the MInute Men will follow. Before Watchmen: Hooded Justice and Before Watchmen: Captain Metropolis seem especially likely.

Dude. Why shouldn't DC use these characters, who have just been sitting around collecting dust for 26 years?

I know that I might catch a lot of nerd rage for this, but its really silly how some people are acting as if DC is committing a sin for utilizing characters that they own. Yes, Alan Moore is a genius. Yes, he could be considered one of the godly writers of comics, but A) he's not actually God and B) when he wrote Watchmen, he wrote the series for DC. So, I'm pretty sure he knew that he wouldn't retain the rights to these characters as this was before creator-owned imprints emerged in the comic book industry.

Its just the reality of the industry. The writers create these characters for the companies to use as they see fit. Saying that Alan Moore is being personally disrespected because DC's doing Before Watchmen is basically like saying that every time DC puts out a new Batman story that they're disrespecting the legacy of Bob Kane.

@Icarusflies: Of course its gimmicky they are just trying to cash in on the over (though i don't know why) popular Watchmen book. I honestly think DC should cut their losses now before they really start losing money on this.

Ugh, in other news DC's milking BW. As Zachattack said, I respect Moore to much for everything he's done for the industy . Plus why bother, Didio said something to the extent of "We'd only do a prequel if there was a story to tell" and from what I heard there really isn't one. Their really just having artists like Jae Lee and Adam Hughes redo flashback sequences and adding a few other unneeded details. Also say you write what is supposed to be one of the best comic book series of all time under the impression it's creator owned only for the company to slap you in the face and do unneeded prequels. Also if the rumor the Watchmen characters will get moved to the DCNU is true, I don't care I wil drop every DC title I'm reading(all seven of them:D). Still I don't blame DC for it, they just want money and if this will get it for them they don't care.

Actually, with the 'Minutemen' series, I feel there is a story to tell. All we know about the group is the stuff gleaned from the flashbacks in the original Watchmen comic, and the excerpts from 'Under the Hood'. I love Golden Age stuff, so this series for me is tops. Issue three, where the team actually worked together to take down a bunch of smugglers (turned out to be Chinese fireworks that were being smuggled, but hey, its still illegal) that was awesome. Captain Metropolis drove a frickin tank through into that warehouse, a tank! And Darwyn Cooke doing the artwork, that is awesome! The New Frontier is one of my favorite series, my copies are getting really dogeared from reading them so much. And yes, I too love Alan Moore and respect his work, but he has been grousing about this for far too long. He did this while working for DC, he signed a contract. And after 26 years, seems to me like it was time to dust off the characters and bring them back into the spotlight. I don't care if I get a lot of nerdhate for this stance, I'm young, I will survive it all. But I care about everything that comics has laid down, even if all the big stuff happened before I was even born. I am what you might call, an open-minded nerd. I try to give people who are changing things in the industry a little leeway, and if something isn't good in pretty much all regards (artwork, story etc) I leave it alone. Other than that, I read all I can get my hands on (and that's quite a lot). So the haters can hate, but that makes no difference to me.

Not a bad idea potentially story-wise. Moloch is an interesting character.

JMS is getting a bit of a workout ... that's three BW titles now I think.

I'd be a lot more excited for this if it was someone else writing it. So far the least essential, interesting and original takes on the Watchmen stories have been JMS's attempts at Niteowl and Doc Manhat. They're just very poor. I've enjoyed some of JMS' work, and I've disliked a slightly larger proportion of it. Always given it a chance, but...given the experience I've had with his other BW titles - not for me.

Before Watchmen, not Cannibalise Watchmen. Which is what's happening anyway, arguably.

Well, Risso is an excellent, excellent artist, but I won't be buying this any more than any of the other Watchmen series. I tried most of the first issues and frankly, the only two series worth anything are Silk Spectre and Minutemen. Everything else (Sorry Azz, but Comedian and Rorschach just aren't quite on par worth 100 Bullets or Wonder Woman) just didn't capture the same spark as Spectre and MM, they have a sort of quaint feeling of foreboding that's moving through them, whereas everything else is just...trying to be Watchmen but not hitting the beats.

Okay, all snark aside. I haven't read a single one of these BW series and never will. Everything I need to know about Watchmen Alan Moore told me. I don't need any fan fiction to fill blanks for me.

This is a good idea, as far as Before Watchmen goes. They very easily could have just had his story as part of an ongoing Minutemen title though.

I have always expected that Before Watchmen was to test the waters for an ongoing series. I know that's not what this Moloch book is but it's a step closer. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we have an official announcement about an ongoing series before the end of the year.

Those aren't equivalent. One is a bad adaptation, the other is tacking on of new fiction to a story intended to stand alone. Moore's positions as I understand them aren't equivalent on both either. He let the movie go as long as his name was nowhere involved. He didn't want Before Watchmen to happen.
