Daredevil TV Show and More Heading to Netflix

Marvel is teaming up with Netflix for an exclusive deal to create FOUR new shows! Get excited, people.

Netflix fans, rejoice. Everyone else: prepare to get Netflix. Today it was announced The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix are joining forces for massive Marvel TV deal. They're going to bring a grand total of four live-action shows exclusively to the top internet TV Network starting in 2015. So, who are the lucky characters getting some time in the spotlight? It should come as no surprise Daredevil is one of them, but also getting their own shows are Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. The website says Netflix agreed to a minimum of four, thirteen episode series and it'll all build-up to a "The Defenders" mini-series event.

No Caption Provided

Marvel Television and ABC Television Studios will produce the shows. Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm over the development. "The deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty."

Viners, on a scale of 1 to "AWWWWWW YEAH," how excited are you?

Im so happy with how Agent of Shields is turning out.

Is this all set in the MCU? Because that would be even MORE awesome!

It would be great if it's set in the MCU. Then we could have different incarnations of the Avengers and superhero teams,I remember hearing RDJ wanted to quit Marvel,so new Avengers could be a possibility.

Jessica Jones -_-...Why waste a show on her? Her mythos are weak and she can be put in Luke Cage's story.

My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do,,,,

Seriously FOX has been on Marvel's tail for the entire damn year. I'd like to see them announce a pointless TV show.

In all fairness to FOX, all five networks screw up when it comes to programming choices. FOX does have Sleepy Hollow, and Almost Human looks as though it may be alright. They have announced Gotham, i look forward to that, even though i'm not that big of a DC fan. Their sister station FX (owned by FOX), have one of my current favorite shows American Horror Story: Coven. I would trust FX to do The Punisher, though if it happens it probably won't be them.

@war_killer: I don't mean to pile on, but I'm really not sure you fully understand the model of Netflix. Every episode of these series is likely to post on the same day, not week to week like regular TV shows. Assuming they release these shows in 4 separate months, that's only $8 per show if you want to see them immediately to avoid spoilers. If you can wait awhile, you can watch all four full seasons for $8. Plus, for the rest of that month, you have access to an almost endless amount of movies and television shows. Then you can easily cancel the service afterwards.

A single movie at most theaters will cost you more and give you five times less content. This is a comic site, so I assume you read comics, $8 will only buy you 2 comics, and those are a weekly expense, not a one time thing. I know you don't have premium channels, but if you have cable at all (which you may not) that is significantly more expensive per month than Netflix, at least 3 times as much. For people who don't have the ability to stream HD video I understand being upset with this delivery method, but the price issue is completely irrelevant.

Plus, Netflix allows considerably more creative freedom than the network system, so these shows actually have the possibility of being good. Unlike Arrow or Agents of SHIELD.

I know Luke Cage was in the Ultimate Defenders, but I'm very confused as to why they are calling this team Defenders. Otherwise this is nothing but amazing news. ABC's Agents of SHIELD has been a huge disappointment, but Netflix has better track record than ABC does with quality programing. Can't wait to see who they get in these roles.

What most people here have to understand is that these shows what not pull the numbers needed to be on (antiquated) public TV. This model, for airing shows is over and the future is netflix type of distro and paid apps on your internet connected devices. Once the studios and more so the tv distributors figure this out we will get more shows through the "sack" screening process and let Joe Public decide what is best not the so called testers. Who do get paid to give an opinion which is kinda messed up. Just my opinion.

There goes the superhero genre it's going to become as repetitive as all the other genres.

Don't worry. Marvel has diversified they portfolio. For them superhero is just an aesthetic. Justice compare their Captain America political thriller to their space sci fi Guardians of the Galaxy to the mystic Dr. Strange.

With Disney behind Marvel I'm worried.

Disney has no real influence on Marvel at least not at the moment. Worried about Warner being behind DC as well?

Always have.

Hasn't Warner shown that they can do good tv shows, movies and cartoons and DC still be independent and make their comics?

To tell the truth I am most interested in seeing a good version of Jessica Jones made. I hope that the Jessica presented here will be more like the Jessica from Alias and not the suppot player later seen in avengers

The more I think about this, the cooler it is. I like that the 4 shows will intertwine and apparently end up as one Defenders show. I don't really get why the Defenders, since none of these characters have had much of a relationship with the Defenders, but as a long-time Defenders fan it's still cool to see them get some attention. And I like that Marvel would be setting up a secondary team to the Avengers, so the Avengers won't be the only team.

I'd prefer if it was a movie personally. Have Heroes for Hire with Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones and then have Daredevil as a cameo in a after credits scene. Followed by the Daredevil movie and also the Punisher could show up. Then that would lead into a Punisher movie.

The Heroes for Hire a completely unrelated origins. That's a story you have to build up to like the Avengers. Maybe they'll do it in their phase 2.

Sweet! But why the hell is jessica jones getting her own series? All she's really done is get mind-raped by purple man and marry luke cage. Nothing against her, I just think that this is a little bit odd considering all the other female characters that deserve a show much more than her *cough cough* captain Marvel *cough cough*

Captain Marvel is more of a movie character. She would be too expensive to do right on tv. Jessica has a private eye angle for her series.

i hope they dont ruin the costume and start calling him "the devil"

Unlikely. Whereas DC is somewhat ashamed of their characters, preferring to go all Batman Begins on 'em, getting as far away from the comic book crazy stuff as they can, Marvel tends to embrace it wholeheartedly. So we'll probably get people and costumes almost torn from the pages of the comics.

But can someone explain to me the appeal of Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist?

They seem so bland; both powers and costumes.

Ooohhh I just read the part that says ABC Television Studios will be co-producing the show, so all 4/5-series should be connected to the MCU :)
