Daredevil #500 Reviewed!

G-Man reviews the massive milestone issue.

Daredevil's had it pretty rough lately.  His luck has been horrible.  He's been on the edge for a while and things are changing.  For a 500th issue, you really should have some big events happening, right?  Ed Brubaker delivers.  Things are about to change, big time, for DD.

I couldn't believe how much material was here.  Marvel's been doing a great job with these 500 and 600th issues.  Part of me isn't too sure what to think of the events here.  Have you been reading Daredevil lately?  Did you see this coming?  Are you looking forward to where things are going to go.  I suppose with how things have been going, it almost makes sense.  This issue really made me want to move Daredevil up on my reading list.

I might be in the minority, but  because I didn't really get into the first two stories, I almost didn't read the #191 reprint, and I almost didn't finish reading the book. Last night I finally did, and the Frank Miller story grabbed me in an emotional way, more than Ed Brubaker's story. So I'm glad I took a second look at this issue #500.

On a related note, the comic shop I go to only charged me 99 cents for the issue, so I thought maybe there was a special mark down or something. Come to think of it, maybe I just had really good luck with a bad barcode scan or something?

After seeing this review, I might consider picking up another issue, to see if the story gets any better for me in the DD series. It could grow on me some more.

I loved this issue.  So sad to see Brubaker to leave.  Tear.

Good review man.  But only a 4.5?!?!?!  For me, it was a 5+.

I haven't been keeping with the blind-crimson clad-lawyer but this issue definitely sucked be back in.  Ed Brubaker's writing is amazing.  I also loved the 8 page preview of the next story arc, Dark Reign:The List.  Can't wait for this to come out next month.

With these 2 stories and all the other extras, this was by far the best century issues from Marvel.

ive never in my life read a daredevil comic book before in my life and since this was a massive 500th issue i thought hey why not? and when i opened the ,book i already new it was a mistake, the art is to sketchy and the other little storys like daredevil 191 reprint i thought it was pointless and stupid it was not worth the £4.00 i paid for and the issue i got had a staple missing so the pages were almost falling out although i will say the story with daredevil fighting bullyseye was goodish overall 2.5 out of 5

Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev on DD are my number one collaboration of all time, but Brubaker and Lark come in close second. Daredevil is my favorite character in comics, and this issue was fantastic. Plus, they reprinted 191, one of my favorite Frank Miller issues. But in regards to the reprint, was it just me or did it look like it was recolored? It looked different.

What I'm worried about though is how well it's going to be handled from here. Brubaker ended it in a spectacular way, but it also seems like it's going to be really hard for Andy Diggle to pick up after runs like Kevin Smith's, David Mack's, Bendis', and now Brubaker. I really hope he keeps up the trend of amazing Daredevil stories.

This issue was incredible. Personally I prefer Burbakers DD stuff over his Cap stuff. AND TALK ABOUT TWIST! Things may start looking sunny for Murdock....in a sense. Sunnier than usual. :P

This is the first Return of the Kingpin issue I picked up, mainly because of the #500 on the cover, lol
I enjoyed the story, and the preveiw of The List put that on my list.  Big DD fan and this could be a good direction.  Let's hope the new creative team does right by DD.
I was glad for the pin-up gallery as I wanted the JR Sr cover.  As well, reading issue 191 was a nice refresher on what DD used to be.
Great review and I can live with the 4.5 :)
Thanks again G-Man.

Loved it.  I just hope the Brubaker fans will give Diggle a chance to prove himself before dropping the title.  Diggle writes awesome stuff.

Brubaker had a similar situation to deal with.  Everyone loved Bendis and Maleev's run and Brubaker was left taking over.  I agree that Diggle does good stuff.

I think Marvel's been kicking ass with all their 500 & 600th issues.  Captain America, Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk.  They've been making them actually worth the five bucks.  But I'm not saying I want to pay five bucks all the time...

 Good God...

Problem is, you're probably right. But I doubt this will happen very soon.
