Could the Next Movie Superman Be Older?

Facebook's Batman says as much...

I think the public's ready for this.
I think the public's ready for this.

The rumors and official statements revolving around Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN reboot seem to tell different stories about how old the Man of Steel is going to be. Snyder’s said they’re going to be focusing on Supes’ early days, yet those rumors about Jon Hamm getting cast endure. Oddly enough, some more grain for the rumor mill has been poured from an interview pertaining to THE SOCIAL NETWORK.

See, a lot of you might not realize that Batman was in the movie. Armie Hammer, who plays the Winklevoss twins in the FACEBOOK ORIGINS movie, was set to play Batman in George Miller’s aborted JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. As such, DC superheroes came up when he was talking to Vulture about his latest movie.

And the exchange played out thusly…

You've made a lot of people's Superman fantasy-casting lists. Did you have your people put in a call to Zack Snyder, who's directing the reboot?
[ Laughs .] You know what's funny? I did talk to my people recently about that for the first time, and I think they're going a little older with Superman. I hear they're going 35, 40.

Really? Wow, Jon Hamm will be excited.
Yeah, I don't know what that might mean.

Truthfully, honestly and emphatically… I’d prefer to see a movie about an older, not-quite-middle-age Superman. We’ve already seen him at his prime plenty of times and we’ve seen ten years (and two TV shows) of content about his youth… so why not a more seasoned Kal El?  == TEASER ==

KINGDOM COME is one of the seminal Supes stories. We don’t need to necessarily have the Apocalyptic super war or the copious allusions to Revelations, but I think a story about the Man of Steel coming out of retirement would capture the public imagination. Hell, it captured Jay-Z's enough for him to title one of his albums after the comic.

Would audiences think him any less heroic for having thinning hair or graying temples? Let's see an older Superman ascend rapidly and smash up through this "agist" glass ceiling!
