Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider Gets His Own Series in April

That costume is ass. He could do much better. The premise is interesting but I really liked Kain as the Scarlet Spider.

They really do need to decide on a streamlined, definitive Spider-Family.

Cmon marvel......stop letting us down with your shit ideas. The costume was ugly itself. Then I read the comments. Then I saw the smile. WTf kind of smile is that LOOOOLOL oh my god, this may be the back breaker of Marvels downfall into idiocrity.

There are far too many spider-characters. What is so special about Peter Parker? Smart dude with spider powers. Spider powers used to give relevance, now it doesn't. He's just common. Way to inflate the Spiderpowers into commonality and irrelevance.

Glad I wasn't the only one who saw the Spidercide similarities.

I've been fine with shared mantles/names, but after a certain point, it feels like it's going too far. The Spiderverse event worked because it was over several universes/worlds etc, but there are so many spider characters in just one world and time. You would think after a certain point someone in the Marvel world would get curious and investigate this or who all of them are.

As usual Hero VS. Hero storyline, what a marvelous strategy by marvel to sell the books.

Obviously there is the old saying if you don't like it, don't buy it...but I don't understand why Marvel has so many Spider people books. I looked at Nov sales and while Renew your vows and Amazing Spider-Man is selling great; Silk and Spider gwen don't seem to hot... am I wrong on this? I'm not understanding Marvels mind set here. Is this some sort of long term business strategy to flood the market with different spider people? Does this help Sony/Marvel partnership so when Sony wants to make Spider-Man spin offs(which I guarantee they eventually will) they have more characters to work with?

My dream set of Spider Family series would be:

1. Amazing Spider-Man - starring Peter Parker, bring back relationship with Mary Jane, end Parker Industries, bring back old costume

2. Ultimate Spider-Man - starring Miles Morales, he can stay in the 616 universe but he needs to stop being displayed as overpowered, he should stay young, write him as he was before he was brought over to 616

3. Scarlet Spider - starring Kaine Parker, bond him back with the Other, move him back to Houston, anyone who hasn't read his solo needs to, Ben Reilly can be a supporting character

4. Agent Venom - starring Flash Thompson, have Eddie Brock be a supporting character

5. Spider-Woman - I don't follow the character but she deserves a solo

6. Spider-Man 2099 - starring Miguel O'Hara, take him back to the year 2099, bring back old costume

...this is disgusting. Disgusting from the very start. They should have left Ben dead. You want to bring back Ben? That's what alternate universes are for. Maybe you shouldn't have killed him off in Spider-Verse. He better be a villain in this comic. Kaine's redemption and reluctant heroism was a real treat for me. I loved him as the Scarlet Spider. Now they're going back to status quo, giving him his cellular degeneration thing again and couldn't even get the reason for it right. It was the bath in the Anti-Venom goo that cured him, not the introduction of The Other. It had nothing to do with her degeneration.

What is with him in Spider-Gwens costume?

Spider-Gwen should be the only spider character allowed to wear a hood. Allow mouth "Spider-Cide". Awful belt

I am a big fan of both Peter David and Mark Bagley so you know both of them together should be something good, however i just can't get over how horrific this new costume looks...... they should have just brought back the original all red with the blue cut off sleeves sweater hoodie.

They still have time to change this, unforunately im sure that won't happen that would be the smart thing for them to do.

Way to go keep on adding people to the spider army when you already have an extreme excess of Spider characters already. At least kill off some of the useless ones that are still around and stick with a design fans already like. Ben was my favorite Spider-Man but since Dan Slott brought him back and r@$#d him face down in the mud ive lost interest in the character now which sucks because I do like Peter David on Spider-Man. As for Bagley on the other hand I liked his artwork pre Ultimate Spider-Man, havent been a fan of it since then on. Oh well it's just one more Spider book I wont be buying now.

Man, New York have a big Spider problem. There Spider all over the place there, why Peter need to suit up? Can we take away so of these Spider books and give some to the X-Men? Come on, the X-Men is living on the streets they need a home.

Don't get me wrong here, I am super stoked that Ben is back in action in the 616. I definitely don't like the costume. I feel it's time that Peter takes more of a mentor role with Parker industries. Let Ben, Kaine, Gwen and Miles do their thing. I would like to see Kaine and Ben try to move beyond the old hatred and do some teaming up eventually. I can see in this series that he could develop some inner issues from being killed so many times. It will definitely be great to see them in a new city. I would love to see them in the Midwest or maybe even go to Canada on the west coast.

I just hope that this person we are seeing now (above) is Spidercide and not Ben as Scarlet Spider.

@wowlock: I agree, I'm reading none of the major franchise books that I usually read from Marvel right now. Rebirth is such a commitment to fans that Marvel has not made in a long time. I don't think they ever will now that they are subsidized by Disney. They don't even need to sell comics anymore

His costume is literally a red version of Spider-Gwen's outfit.

That said, I'd still check this book out.

this is the plot? i didnt read it. If that's the case then that makes me wonder why people are so excited. It's not the guy they know and love, it's a character by name only.

My idea of the spider family:

Peter Parker (Spider Man):He is the original, but they need to let him use his mind, and change his costume, and I think it could be nice to make him a relationship with another super, but as Peter Parker, it could be funny seeing the girl trying to protect him from her enemies, because she doesn't know he is spider man.

Cindy Moon (Silk): She is good, and I like her original name, but they should stop of writing those weird stories with the negative zone and her boyfriend with super powers.

Kaine Parker (Scarlet Spider):He is literally a darker version of spider man and that works fine.

Ben Reilly (Scarlet Spider):He was a good character and I actually liked him, but they should bring the old Ben, not the version that he was a supervillian and is trying reformed, that is Kaine story and it works for him.

Miguel O'Hara (Spider Man 2099):He could be better if they add him at the whole marvel universo to make him meet another superheroe and not only the spider people, I mean when the celestials attacked at the begining of Civil War II, he didn't even new for time traveling, they should make everyone know that there are three Spider Men, and add him some old villains from the present or add him known character and not only creating new ones.

Miles Morales (Spider Man):They should sent him back to his old universe, or not making him a individual character, he should be more like blindspot, bring trained by the original Spider Man, and both should interact more, they only had two encounters inmeach other book, he should be like he doesn't how to be a teenager heroe, and Peter teach him how.

Let this be a lesson to you. All you have to do is create a ton of clones and give them all unquestioning loyalty to you through medication. Lie about almost everything... and you too can have your own series. Not to worry though we will see Kane soon... and Black Cat will get spider powers. J Jonah Jameson, Aunt May... can't have too many spider titles right?

Yeah, I hear ya. It is a difficult decision. Brock is iconic, but Flash is so AWEsome. Plus, he brings a new dimension to the symbiote. I think making Brock Toxin was an excellent idea. I haven't read that storyline yet, but I feel they dropped the ball, somewhere there.

I respect your point of you. I appreciate your passion. I do disagree with some of your ideas though. I disagree with Drew. Plus, Spider-Gwen is more of a trendy title. Reilly should exist.

I respect your post as well. However, I disagree that Reilly is taking Kaine's story. They have two different stories. They are similar, but different. Reilly is a hero who turned to the bad side and wants to make amends for his mistakes. Kaine is a tortured soul who was a villain now trying to reform, but feels he is ultimately a villain. Simmilar but different. (+)

Is Marvel trying to copy the bat family by creating a "spider family"?

@bluehope: I think marvel had more Spider characters than DC had Bat characters for quite a long time, of course I mean ones who used Spider and Bat in their costumed identities not so much the other non Spider or Bat supporting cast like Black Cat/Venom or Robin/Nightwing.

@ursaber: what about Julia Carpenter or the Black Widow (Clone) ?
