Battle of the Week: Deathstroke vs. Boba Fett

Both characters are incredibly formidable, but who's left standing when they're forced to fight each other?

Boba Fett has earned his reputation as one of the galaxy's most feared bounty hunters. He's stood up to Darth Vader and faced many other kinds of threats, but does this high tech character have what it takes to bring down our latest Character of the Month?

Yes, we all know Boba Fett is basically useless in the movies. He looks cool and then he gets demolished by a blind Han Solo. How can that stand up to Slade Wilson, right? Well, we're not using just movie Fett! In this battle, we're taking into account all of the bounty hunter's showings in the expanded universe, as well. If you're going to vote, please take those into consideration. Now, whether that'll be enough to bring down the mercenary from DC has yet to be determined, but you can play a part in picking the outcome! Go read the rules -- they give important details like where they're fighting and what not -- and then cast your vote when you've made up your mind.

Match Rules

  • Combatants are in character.
  • This is a random encounter (aka no prep for either side).
  • They're fighting in a generic downtown city setting. It's unpopulated, at night and all standard city lights remain on. Assume they start roughly 100 feet apart and visible. There's a fair amount of cover in the location (parked vehicles, bus stops and such). The entire area is on limits. This means alleys, rooftops, building interiors, the sewer, etc.
  • Boba Fett has all of his standard gear. No vehicles, obviously.
  • This is pre-52 Deathstroke and he also has his standard gear.
  • Incapacitation, knockout or death all count as elimination. Making a tactical retreat counts as a loss, too.
  • Hey, you know what would be really cool? Treating everyone else in the debate with respect. If you think someone's saying something that just isn't true, go ahead and stick to the facts to point out why. There's no need at all to drop insults just because you disagree with someone. Seriously, this is just talking about a fictional fight, there's no need for immaturity and mudslinging.
  • If you think the poll isn't going how it should, making an informative post about why a character is being underestimated and spreading the word is far more useful than complaining. Just saying.
  • One more thing: you don't need to write an essay to be selected as the Viner Argument of the Week. Sometimes concise posts can be way more effective than a flood of paragraphs.

Check the homepage this Friday for an updated article with the following:

  • Thoughts from the staff.
  • Viner Arguments for both characters (can't include scans and must be in the poll thread).
  • If we're lucky, blurbs from industry talent.

Keep your eyes on the homepage for more Deathstroke goodness! We'll have his Best Covers posted this Friday, too. Want to suggest a future match for Slade Wilson? Tell us below or suggest it via twitter.

boba fett wins this battle in my opinion. he has more weapons than death stroke. he has what it takes to eff death-stroke up. just because death stroke has defeated batman doesn't mean he can't be defeated. death stroke has never face anything like boba fett before.

Fett matched Darth freaking Vader in a lightsaber match. 'Nuff said.

Star Wars Tales is non-canon; the story in question is part of the Infinities series of alternate universe stories. And Fett lost that lightsaber match, unless getting disarmed and pinned against a wall counts as matching your opponent now.

Deathstroke hands-down. The way he took apart half of the justice league by himself in Identity Crisis shows his fighting skill and tactical abilities, which are more then enough to take down Boba Fett, even without preparation.

Boba Fett, because he is the ultimate bounty hunter and he is from the future (and some how from the past) so he has weapons that Deathstroke has only seen in his dreams.

@el_hamlet_: fett is a master marksman tracker and assassin with better weapons and armor.

Yeah, he's a better tracker and has better armor. But Deathstroke is a much better assassin and way more skilled.

@fastnoc: in what ways is he a better assassin? you dont get called vader's right hand man for being an ok assassin. and skilled maybe in h2h

I went to Wookipedia to look up Boba Fett's feats but reading his entry is like trying to drink from a firehose. Can someone provide a summary of his feats in Star Wars' (now non-canon) Expanded Universe? I know he escaped the Sarlacc and eventually became leader of the Mandalorians but beyond that I know nothing.

@nerdchore: He has enhanced senses and enhanced physical abilities. If he can kill something as small as a fly with a paperclip, then he is definitely a better marksman than Bobba is.

I dont much about fett outside the movies but I feel his futuristic gear could give the advantage, but from what I know about Slade that wont matter much. So I am going to say Slade for now.

@fastnoc: Show me Deathstroke doing something like that with a gun, then we can talk. Then let me know what he's packing that has more piercing potential than a lightsaber.

@angelalfonso: Being from the future is not a major advantage unless you are from the same universe as your opponent. What is Boba Fett carrying that Slade who lives in a science fiction type of world would be surprised by?

I'm not saying Slade wins, but the idea he is going to be shocked by anything, Boba Fett has, lol. Slade has to deal with Batman and the JL who all have weird weapons and tech as well.

Agreed. A planet like Coruscant is basically what Earth might end up being one day. Today we have guns that fire bullets and cars on wheels. In tens of thousands of years we'll live in a world where laser weaponry has been old news for 4000 years and everyone drives Skycars. I don't think Slade would be too surprised in all honesty.

@i_like_swords: You think the human race is going to survive that long?

Avatar image for i_like_swords
Edited By i_like_swords

@lukehero: *shrugs* depends on what aliens we run into. In the Star Wars universe the human race is by far superior to most other humanoid races in terms of population/survivability. Not sure why but there ya go. Maybe we will be. Maybe we'll get destroyed.

@i_like_swords: I don't see how we make it more than 2,000 to 5,000 more years. Too much pollution, too much war and violence...

@lukehero: True.. true, although war and violence as a whole has been steadily decreasing as history goes on.

..I feel like we're derailing the thread a little here.

considering we are already staring colonization ( extremely early one way colony) of mars i fiqure we can survive if only by going to outer planets. we could in theory last a hell of a lot longer and maybe out last the earth

Slade takes this. Superior fighting skills, stats and some pretty sick accuracy feats. He'll be able take Boba down with a few decent promethium shots, plus the staff of his will wreck.

@cjdavis103: @i_like_swords: My bad, back to the fight. Who ya got?

I'll take Boba, Jett Pack has to be an advantage here. 6/10 till someone proves other wise. As long as Boba doesn't get sucked into H2H fighting, or close combat, he should take it.

Avatar image for cjdavis103

@lukehero:

in the fight Boba has the edge in range comat by a fair margin compine that with his armor's Resistance to Light sabers DS is going to have a hell of a time puting boba down

that said Pre 52 slade had Prothim armor IIRC and an enhanced healing factor so boba will have a hard time puting him down as well

this battle will come down to what gives out first Boba's armor and speed or DS's healing factor and armor

Take in mind people this is not just the Fett from the movies but from also the EU (expanded Universe). Fett wins and here is why; Fett is packing enough destructive weaponry to take not only Slade down but probably the entire alleyway too. He has his Jet pack which gives him superber maneuverability and his weapons are extremely deadly (He is packing enhanced blaster rifles concussion grenades, rockets, flame throwers, thermal detonators (which alone could wreck the ally), wrist launchers ect, and ect.) He is going to be hard to tag at range and if does get hit he has mandalorian steel armor protecting him. This stuff can with stand lightsaber blows, bullets and other projectiles that Slade has are going to be pretty ineffective. That means Slade is going to have to try and close the gap for his signature sword combat. This will be hard to do but if he does do this Fett still has some other tricks up his sleeve (poison gasses and debilitating agents) none of which will bring down Slade but will debilitate and could give Fett a slight edge. While yes, Slade probably does have Fett in terms of strength and running speed, and his sword combat and h2h skills are a little better than Fetts, their reflexes are practically on par with the slight edge going to Fett (he deals with Jedi and has trained Jedi) and their is only slight margins when in favor of Slade. But the real kicker is if Slade closes the gap and comes at Fett does have one other ace up his sleeve that being lightsabers. If anything of his log years of bounty hunting it has taught Fett to be prepared for unknown encounters and in a universe filled with Jedi and Sith Fett mainly keeps these around just in case he has to deal with force sensatives on his missions. This is a lightsaber people, this thing will not only cut through Slade like a hot knife through butter but his sword as well. So how does this end either with a Slade blown with a couple of wholes from a blaster or him sliced in two when he tries to fight what is the equivalent of a wooden stick against a high quality katana. It will be an interesting and tough fight but the outcome will be a cry of Mandalorian victory.

Deathstroke, hands down. He's just too fast and too strong for Boba to take down one-on-one with no prep time. The best weapon Boba Fett has in his usual arsenal is his anti-vehicle homing rocket, and that's horribly inaccurate against smaller, moving targets, especially with the athleticism of Slade.

@perfect_10:

I completely agree with you. I decided not to vote because I know NOTHING about Han Solo other than from the movies. But from what I see in the comments, everyone thinks Han will win because of his weapons. But I don't think that will be near enough and I don't think he's even almost skilled enough to take down Slade.

I think I'll need to think about this one. Love Fett, but I'm leaning towards Slade atm purely because I think he's somewhat quicker.

Blind people > Boba Fett

This shouldn't be too tough for Slade.

Boba Fett based on tech, skill, and overall damage output.

I don't see Fett tagging him with his EE-3 Carbine until he puts him down with a wrist rocket via AOE. 100 feet apart should give Boba the distance he needs to assess his opponents strengths and weaknesses as goes the same for Slade when he heads for Fett. Boba will be able to use his jet pack to escape from getting trapped in a close quarters fight which Slade will excel at by having better reflexes and speed than Boba Fett although Fett isn't too far behind in the reflex department mainly because of his ability to react to a situation before it happens. Boba will start off with some opening shots, Slade will dodge them without too much of a problem. After he see's his opponents ridiculous reflexes Boba can and will take to the air and see about taking his opponent down with a wrist rocket. Once used I don't see slade being out for the count but I do see him being knocked down. Boba Fett can easily hammer him with enough bolts to keep him down and most likely puncture his armor. And once that happens Slade won't have much longer to live.

EU Fett takes it, although it has the potential to be a pretty good fight.

Also, why do people keep saying Fett has future tech? It's "LONG, LONG ago in a galaxy far, far away!"

Would give the better weapons to Fett, better skills to Wilson but can't Fett fire an explosive from his armour? Yes he can. Would there even be a fight. Need to kill that guy o hes dead. was he good? Who knows?
