Awesome Toy Picks: Marvel Select Cable

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. We've been looking at some Marvel Legends figures lately but this week we're going to look at a Marvel Select figure for Cable.

As usual, the figure comes in a pretty massive package. There's some art on the side and inside along with a summary of the character's history.

The Marvel Select figures have a lot of detail but tend to have less articulation. They also come with a base for the figure so you can put it on display.

Cable has seen and been through a lot in his time. It's no surprise he'd look a little haggard at times and that shows in the detail of the figure.

There's a lot going on with this figure. You can see he's loaded with ammunition. He has plenty of guns, shoulder pads, and, of course, pouches. This is how you would want a Cable figure to look like.

You have some options with the guns. There's plenty to choose from. The two in the holsters on his legs are a nice touch. They can easily be removed but they can also fall out if you bump them.

Cable doesn't just use guns. He also has a big knife on his back. It slides out and fits into his hands.

The big gun he comes with is pretty dang big. If you prefer, you can have him hold two guns at the some time for some double fisted blasting action.

With the base, you might see a familiar accessory.

Looks like he's standing on the remains of Stryfe's armor. Who's Stryfe? If you're a Cable fan, you likely know that answer. He was a clone of Cable and they basically hated each other. Long story. Look up his page here if you need more info.

This other gun was a bit of a mystery to me at first. I wasn't really sure how it fit on his shoulder pad. You could put it on the 'metal' peg so he could simply grab it over his shoulder. It barely stayed on and would fall off if you moved the figure.

I did a little digging and found some of the early shots of the figure. Apparently you can set it up on his shoulder to be a shoulder-gun to add to his firepower.

Any way you position it, it's pretty touchy. You have to be careful or it'll just fall right off.

Overall, it's a very nice figure. You expect Cable to be big and bulky. The Marvel Select figures have a lot of detail but tend to have less articulation. I've stated in the past that I'm okay with cutting down on articulation in favor of having less visible seams.

Because of the shoulder pads, there is some minor limitations to how high you can move his arms. Another thing I've noticed with some of the Marvel Select figures is sometimes they don't stay on their stands after a long period of time. They can be a little top heavy and you might have to adjust the figure after a while.

The Marvel Select figures retail for around $25. You can get it on Amazon for under $23. If you're a fan of Cable and everything that goes along with him, you'll want to track him down right away before the price goes up on the after-market.

Let us know what you think of this figure. We'll have another figure spotlighted next time.
