Awesome Toy Picks: Chitauri Commander by Hot Toys

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a cool comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. This week we have a massive figure. It's a sixth scale figure from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles. So that means it's going to be amazing. Let's a take a close look at the Chitauri Commander from the Movie Masterpiece series.

One of the many things I love about Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles is they know how to do things right. Just looking at the package alone gets you excited. Obviously our main concern is with what is inside but they take the time to make the package look really nice.

There is a cover on the box that slides off so you can see what's inside.

There will be some assemble required. Not much and it's really easy. If you already watched the video at the top of the page, you saw our unboxing and assembly of the figure. The attention to detail is unbelievable.

One of the things he comes with is a Chitauri gun. You won't have to worry about whether or not it'll stay in his hands because you actually remove one of his hands and snap the gun in place. This also makes it easily fit into either right or left hand. There are also an extra set of hands in a slightly different position.

The figure comes with a base and stand. It will easily stand on its own but because you're going to want to proudly display this figure, the stand gives more stability and the base is pretty cool. We mainly associate these guys with the "Battle of New York" at the end of Marvel's The Avengers so it makes perfect sense to have some rubble and debris as part of the base. Having separate pieces of debris is another great touch and will allow you to move things around and really make it look great when on display.

The helmet is removable. The sides snap off so you can easily put it on or off. Underneath you can see what they look like. They have a face only a mother could love.

Hot Toys could have easily made it so the helmet stayed on permanently. Having the option to remove it adds more detail to the figure. You can get a tiny glimpse of their eyes through the helmet and it's great being able to remove it if you desire.

With or without the stand, you can put him into different positions. These figures have plenty of articulation and great joints to allow you to a lot.

Besides the gun and rubble, the figure also comes with a communicator. It fits right into his hand in case he needs to call for back up or play Words With Friend.

You can easily see the crazy amount of detail put into this figure. One of the things I love is the different positions you can put these types of figures in for display. You do have options in what you want to do with them or how you want to put them up against your other figures.

While I do think the piece looks nice, I hardly see the justification for this to be over 200 dollars smh.

I do really like chitauri design for the movie, it's what I imagined they would look like in their true form when reading the ultimates. shame in the movie they pretty useless, I don't think they killed anyone, I guess everyone in new york except the chitauri survived the battle of new york.

cool toy, love the detail but not sure I'd pay that much for it,

@gotham331: These figures are amazing. Maybe some people aren't familiar with the quality you get with these. You can see on Sideshow's site that this figure is selling fast as well: http://bit.ly/MarvelMovie

For the amount of detail, it's a good price. If you look at all the other SC figures ... it's as if the real characters were shrunken down by Hank Pym's reducing gas. :)

Now all I need is the Black Widow figure to stab this Chitauri in the back and drive its dead body across the New York skyline. Turn. Turn! TURN!!

@knightsofdarkness2: agreed. it's a cool figure and all, but there are too many other Hot Toys figures i've passed on that I wanted way more. this one's just not a "necessary" figure.

@g_man: Wow, that's a pretty impressive action figure there. I'm so jealous I can't afford it, lol. I totally understand that price because it has so much detail and articulation. Things that have that type of quality shouldn't be cheap. By the way, you scared the crap out of me at the end of video, lol. I get scared so easily, lol.
