Awesome Art Picks: X-Men, Superman, Black Widow, and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Each week we search for the coolest comic book art that you won't see in actual comics. The reason you won't is because artists often draw sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs, and websites. Some artists even pre-arrange commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out.

Last weekend was Emerald City Comicon so we skipped an installment of this feature. That means we have a load of incredible art this week along with the Mystery Art Challenge at the show.

Clay Mann posted this sweet Black Widow sketch cover from ECCC on his Tumblr.

Dennis Calero posted this Spider-Ham sketch on his Twitter page a couple weeks ago.

Paolo Rivera posted a few commissions on his blog from a con in Mexico.

Gabriel Hardman posted quite a few sketches from ECCC on his blog.

Joel Gomez posted some new art on his Tumblr.

Here's a couple commissions Michael Walsh did at ECCC and posted on his Tumblr.

Freddie Williams II was also at ECCC and posted some commissions on his Twit Pic page.

Rod Reis posted a couple new pics on his Tumblr.

Ryan Stegman is constantly posting sketches and penciled pages from comics he's working on on his Tumblr. Check these two out.

Dustin Nguyen posted some new art this week on his Tumblr. This first pic is some weird-o. The second he posted on April 1 and had to do with BATMAN: LIL'ER GOTHAM where they would make bigger heads and eventually eliminate bodies and limbs. But again, keep in mind the date he posted it.

Terry Dodson also posted a Frozen-inspired sketch on his Deviant Art Page, from ECCC.

No surprise, Marcio Takara was pretty busy at ECCC. Here's some of the sketches he posted on his Tumblr.

Philip Tan posted a couple more sketches on his Facebook page.

Here's some sketch cards Chris Giarrusso posted on his website.

Mike McKone posted a couple sketches on his Twitter page.

Brett Booth usually posts new sketches on his blog each week. Here's a couple.

Mahmud Asrar posted some more commissions from Germany on his Tumblr.

Here's some art J. Scott Campbell posted on his Instagram.

Ryan Ottley posted some commissions from ECCC on his Tumblr. The SAVAGE DRAGON sketch was drawn by Erik Larsen and inked by Ryan.

Marcus To posted one of the commissions he did at ECCC on his Tumblr.

Robert Atkins has been busy lately but did post this Ultimate Spider-Man commission on his blog.

Skottie Young posted a bunch of commissions from MegaCon 2014 on his Tumblr.

Peter Nguyen posted a couple more of his X-Men costume switch sketches on his Tumblr along with some ECCC commissions.

Patrick Zircher posted a couple warm-up sketches on his Twitter page.

Gene Gonzales also posted some commissions from MegaCon on his blog.

Agnes Garbowska posted some pre-commissions on her Tumblr.

Yildiray Cinar posted this cool Doctor Doom sketch on his Instagram.

Here's a couple commissions Brian Buccellato did at ECCC.

Todd Nauck was pretty busy (as usual) at ECCC. Here's some of his commissions posted on his Tumblr. The Lex Luthor piece was for the the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special 2 charity art show.

The first Mystery Art Challenge of 2014 featured Black Widow and a garden gnome. You may have already seen the video earlier this week. Here's the art from Peter Nguyen, Marcus To, Chris Giarrusso, Derek Fridolfs, Dustin Nguyen, Michael Walsh, and Todd Nauck.

Here's the video in case you missed it.

That's it for this week. We'll have more art once again, next time.

That Batman eating Supermans cape was great. Looks like a bat-parasite.

My New 52 Blue Beetle/Ted Kord concept with the rebooted Tarantula (as his Catwoman type) and Jonathan Law (the original Tarantula) is now her tech support/Oracle type.
Barbara and Ted (in my New 52 concept) are dating.
"My Little Buttercup" or "Undercover." New 52 concept having Ted, Maxwell Lord, and Booster and Skeets as buds.
In my New 52 concept Mitch Wacky (with the white streak in his hair) is actually the robot Lord Havok in armor.
Redesign of the Squids for New 52 Beetle concept, also Batgirl and Ted are fighting them above.
Many variations to the Skull helmet (he could wear all them)
My concept for Taskmaster on Agents of SHIELD, and he should be played by Ray Park.

Great concept @g_man Reminds me of Home Movies on Adult Swim with Brendon Small, they would put garden gnomes in random places.

@artistneedham: That's some great artwork you got there buddy. What's your deviant art? So, I can follow it.

Wow, love the artwork in here. So, many great choices to save as my computer wallpapers especially that Forge and Storm costume swap.

"Ryan Stegman is constantly posting sketches and penciled pages from comics he's working on on his Tumblr"

Way to tease Ben Reilly in Spider-Verse then :D

@cbishop: That's Zachary Foxx, one of the four main characters from the 1986 cartoon series "The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers". He was voiced by Jerry Orbach.

@crimsonlord53: Not sure if you're being sarcastic. It's a sketch cover. People use them to get commissions. They don't necessarily use them for characters that appear in the book.

I LOVED that show. I actually saw other artists drawing them. Not sure if it was the same person commissioning different artists to draw them all. Dig the cheesy classic 80s intro:

True, no one rivals Doom.

Maybe Lex should add a helmet to that suit. XD

I never cared about Futures End, then I heard Grifter would be in it, Me: "Ehh, maybe I'll look into it." Then I heard Firestorm would be in it, Me: FIRESTORM!!!

I keep saying that computers need sarcasm finger's or something like them.

I like the Mahmud Asrar art, but I get the feeling he doesn't like to draw feet.

Brett Booth Hellboy makes me drool. Skottie Young M.O.D.O.K is also amazing. So much good stuff this week

Posted by Hawkguy

If I ever get a chance I'm going to get Ottley to do a commission for me. I love his work and I'd totally pay for a sketch of Batman roundhouse kicking Deadpool's head off
