Each week we search high and low across the internet for the coolest comic book art that you won't see in comics. The reason you won't see them in comics is because artists often draw sketches for fun or for commissions. They usually are kind enough to post them on their tumblrs or blogs to share with the world. Because they are so great we want to make sure everyone gets a chance to appreciate them.
This first piece sort of breaks the rules here. It's a variant cover for AvX by Skottie Young. But it's a Midtown Comics variant. That makes it more rare. And the art doesn't appear inside the comic. It's just so darn good, I wanted to post it one more time but now, without the logo.
That's not all Skottie posted on his website. Check out his Mason Savoy from CHEW and a zombie.
Agnes Garbowska posted a couple ADVENTURE TIME related pics on her Tumblr. Check out Catwoman and Tree Trunks and Princess Bubblegum.
There's been some talk about Huntress lately with all the Earth 2 news coming out. Marcus To, the artist on the HUNTRESS miniseries posted this sketch for a friend he recently did.
Paolo Rivera is constantly posting pics of commissions he did at NYCC. Looks like he's seriously someone you need to track down if you ever attend a convention he's at. Check out Lady Sif and Spider-Man.
Phil Noto took part in the "creator owned day" Thursday and posted a pic of Triggergirl 6 which is part of part of Image Comics’ Creator Owned Heroes which is out in June.
Dan McDaid posted a pic of Hulk in honor of the new trailer for The Avengers this week.
Mike Mayhew posted a lot of sketches covers and commissions this week. Check out Jean Grey, Captain America, Polaris, Mystique and Wolverine
Robert Atkins posted some commissions he recently did on his blog. Check out his Scarlett, Superman, Cobra and Baroness, Nightwing and Flint.
Gene Gonzales posted a commission of Arisia he did at Megacon on his blog.
And finally, I came across Ron Salas' website where he posted some of his recent sketches. Check out Wally (Kid Flash), Batman and Hulk.
That's it for this week. I know I didn't post as many as usual (my hotel internet was pretty bad). Be sure to check out our next installment with more Awesome Art Picks.
