Awesome Art Picks: Spider-Woman, Moon Knight, Earthworm Jim, and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Each week we search for and gather up the coolest comic book art that you won't see in actual comics. The reason you won't is because artists often do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their websites, blogs, and Tumblrs. Some artists even arrange commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out.

Reilly Brown posted some sketches from Motor City Con on his Tumblr.

Rod Reis posted a digital sketch of Nightwing on his Tumblr.

Denis Medri posted some new art on his Deviant Art Page.

Ryan Ottley was busy at Motor City Con. Check out the sketches he posted on his Tumblr. (And did you see what happened in INVINCIBLE #111?!?)

Ryan Stegman posted some more sketches on his Tumblr. The first were five-minute sketches that were inked by Rodney Ramos.

Paolo Rivera posted this Wasp and Giant Man sketch he did for the Hero Initiative on his blog.

Philip Tan posted a couple more sketches on his Facebook page.

Skottie Young was super busy as well. Check out the sketches he posted on his Tumblr. (And there's even more there I didn't post here).

Mahmud Asrar posted some more pre-C2E2 commissions he did on his Tumblr. There's one there I couldn't post here.

Here's a Batman sketch Aaron Kuder did at Motor City and posted on his Twitter page.

Brian Stelfreeze posted an Isis sketch and more from Big Wow on his Twitter page.

Peter Nguyen posted a couple new sketches on his Tumblr this week.

Marcus To posted an update to a Superman Family pic he's been working on as well as some sketches from a contest he did on his Tumblr.

J. Scott Campbell posted more sketches on his Instagram page.

Mike Mayhew posted a couple WIP's for Jean Grey "Black Queen" and "teen" Jean on his Twitter page.

Agnes Garbowska posted some new sketches on her Tumblr.

Check out this Joker and Harley piece Clay Mann posted on his Tumblr.

Marcio Takara posted the inked version of this Damian piece we saw penciled and colored last week on his Tumblr, as well as some other pieces.

Todd Nauck always works pretty much non-stop at shows. Here's a bunch from Dallas he posted on his Tumblr.

Sean Wagner went to Motor City Con and sent in some commissions he got and some in progress commissions. Check out Red Robin by Agnes Garbowska, Flash Family and Robin/Itty Bitty Hellboy by Art Baltazar, Lee Weeks working on a Rhino sketch, Invincibly by Ryan Ottley, and Clayton Crain working on four commissions while talking to fans.

That's it for this week. Next week is the Long Beach Comic Expo. I'll be there moderating three panels on Saturday. There might be another Mystery Art Challenge. If you're there, be sure to keep an eye out for us and say hello!

Colossus/Kitty made me smile :)

Lots of good stuff this week! Like the super-montage, Venom, Union Jack and most of Nauck's work. Oh and who wouldn't like a black cat pic each week!

Mayhew's Jean looks like a response to Frank Cho's Emma

Earth Worm Jim!

The superman family one Is pretty cool.

Far too much awesome this week. Skottie's Earthworm Jim takes the cake. I love the perspective on the Aaron Kuder Batman.

Tom Raney may have posted the Isis pic on his Twitter, but between the style and the signature, I'm certain the drawing itself is by Brian Stelfreeze. And, as usual, it's gorgeous.

Spawn, Wolverine, femLoki, and Green Lantern John Stewart are my faves.

Love Clay Mann's Joker and Harley sketch.

And wow, I see Mia Dearden! That's a pleasant surprise!

That's some quality nudity on Typhoid Mary there. I approve.

Posted by Crimsonlord53

Jean rocked that black queen outfit nice to see it again.

Would have liked to see better DC stuff. Aside from the Joker/Harley pic and the John Stewart piece all of the other DC artwork seemed lackluster.

Asrar's work is amazing, as always.

I commissioned the Skottie Young Batman, and the Riddler was for my brother.

Posted by BatWatch

So is it just me or does the Black Queen seem to be having a bit of...ahem...a humpback animal of burden,,,foot digit?

Posted by gmanfromheck

@kalorama: Thanks! Yeah, I goofed. I wrote the text on the ferry last night. But I fixed and added more awesome art from Stelfreeze!

That Aaron Kuder Batman looks amazing

Skottie Young needs to draw an Earthworm Jim book. But that's something that's too good to happen...

Really love the manic expression on Shiklah's face in that Reilly Brown piece.

Hoping I can get a commission from Todd Nauck, he really works during conventions!

Just so much awesome works in this update, but I really liked the classic pre 52 Superman Family pin up

I would love to have Skottie Young draw a monthly Earthworm Jim comic. I would read it.

Deadpool looks so adorable when his wife is holding his disembodied head. ...Wow, that's a sentence I thought I'd never say.

If this is the direction comics are heading art wise it's going to be a shame when I stop reading and buying them. Kinda sad

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but this literally looks like a sketch from a 10 year old.

Wow, I always love these art picks... Although they make a little green with envy, I wish I was well know enough to have my art recognized like this.

Some really great stuff.

Tan, Tan, you naughty man.

Edited by Rezurrection

Wow. Gorgeous works. I wish I had such talent. I would actually make my own comic then! I adore how they capture not just the look of the characters but the attitudes in some of them as well.

@gor724: At conventions, Art typically does quick sketches of any character (approx. 1 to 2 min.) on the spot for fans and kids attending the convention. This is pretty typical for his art style at conventions. He is often talking with kids about the comics they enjoy and also sometimes showing them how to draw some of the character outlines for some of his famous characters from Aw Yeah Comics, Tiny Titans, etc. while completing the sketch. Here is a video example of him drawing some other characters for people (
