All-Star Superman Cartoon Trailer

No sooner does the official cast list for DC Animated’s ALL-STAR SUPERMAN movie get released than an official trailer follows. MTV’s Splash Page has the preview, which you can watch below (and some of you craftier Comic Vine maniacs already have.)  How about you go on hop down to “after the jump,” give the clip a look or two or three, and then come back for my commentary?

Before anything else, I’ll say it’s very surreal to see anything from Grant Morrison’s body of work became a feature of this scale. I couldn’t even picture his provocative NEW X-MEN and JLA runs in full motion, let alone the far-out, demented fantasia we’ve seen in the likes of DOOM PATROL, INVISIBLES and THE FILTH (though we will be seeing some live action from his imagination in that indy SINATARO movie he wrote.) The same can be said about Frank Quitely, actually. The models in this toon don’t look like their cleaving too close to the guy’s art and I figure that’s to be expected. Quitely has such an idiosyncratic style, it’d really be unfeasible to directly translate it into animation - - it’d almost be like trying to do a Bill Sienkiewicz toon!

Here's the video, as promised...  == TEASER ==         Another thing I’m curious about is what the casual DVD buyer is going to think about this. If your understanding of Supes has been shaped entirely by the closer-to-Earth movies, then your mind’s going to be absolutely blown by sentient Suns, decoy robot armies and the throng of Silver Age-style wonders in ALL-STAR. Perhaps their senses will be so shattered, they’ll just have to go to their local comics shop to get a bigger taste of this craziness?
