@tikhunt: Flashpoint Paradox was spot on presenting Emperor Aquaman, but that's not a regular version of the character. And they also changed the end and made him job to Superman, while in the comics his last act is tackling Superman (without having lost an arm of course).

JL Animated Aquaman was spot on portraying the 90's PAD Aquaman and for my money that's the most faithful adaptation (again concerning the more rugged Aquaman at that moment).

And his small role in JLA Crisis on Two Earths was the one that had the most in common with the current version, although in no way was he as detailed as the current comics Aquaman.

So I'd have to go with the JL Animated version for the time being, but I'm sure when he gets his solo animated film after JL War, that will be the best version.

@comicfan11: IIRC, the JL cartoon version of Aquaman seemed a little ignorant of the surface. PAD Aquaman grew up in the sea for the most part, yeah, but he wasn't a stranger to land either.

Not a big Aquaman expert but i did enjoy the JL animated series version of him especially the part when he cut off his own hand so that he could save his son from dying. That was epic.

Wait, "best" or "closest to"? Because the brooding, one-handed JL version was probably closest to the comics at the time (and was a badass), but man do I love the "outrageous" version from Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

@fodigg: I totally and shamefully forgot about B&B Aquaman

He was very different from his modern comics, but he was totally awesome.

    Finally a topic.

I was surfing Aquamans forum for about a month and thought we needed something, anything to talk about.

And I personally loved the B&B portrayal but I dunno why.

I really liked Young Justice Aquaman, but they didn't show much of him. I liked him the best

But since we barely saw him, I choose DCAU Aquaman

@justthatkid: But B&B was supposed to be a more comedic show, like the original live action Batman series from the 60s.

Everyone even Batman was portrayed in the same way (Batman had a "my car is better than your" rivalry with Green Arrow and it was hilarious).

In this setting I loved B&B, one of the best superhero cartoons ever IMO, but you have to look at it as a comedy with a lot of action, or action with a lot of comedy. Comedy was central to the show.

Characterization wise, I would say JL animated version. However, no show has shown how strong he really is.

I was astounded when I first saw the JL episode where he is badly wounded by a missile. I mean, I know he isn't like Superman where he can tank a nuke, but at most he should be just bleeding. Aquaman looked liked he was gonna be in a coma lol.

Flashpoint is the only one that's good. DC has treated Aquaman's animated appearances poorly in general afaic

@tikhunt: It was nice I guess but I'm still against the jolly holiday spirit acting depiction. I did enjoy the inclusion of his son who is never really shown though. ... This Aquaman sings :/

@justthatkid: Admittedly, I really enjoy TTGO! But I guess the further embarrassment of Aquaman struck me from enjoying this lol.

I have a soft spot of the B: TBATB Aquaman, he was silly and bit over the top but how he was meant to be that against straight lace Batman.

Young Justice was my favorite. JLU was good, but a bit too...rough around the edges, never liked Aquaman like that.

    ...

And why not exactly? He's one of the most iconic characters in DC and one of the oldest.

And to anyone who's actual read an Aquaman comic he's awesome.

The only people who think otherwise are idiots who think Family Guy and BBT have any merit in their "portrayals"

I know, I hate that they changed his design for JLU. I like the classic look he had in STAS.
