A group of mercenaries stands outside the temple of the Priests of Pama, a pacifist organization on an outworld planet. Balking at the requests of the robed monks for them to leave, one of the monks reveals herself to be Phyla-Vell, the new Quasar. As she identifies the temple as being under her protection, the band of mercinaries attacks. Using the Quantum-bands she stole from Annihilus, Phyla rushes into battle. As she is fighting she hears a strange voice in her head as Moondragon jumps in to assist. The pair make waste of the would-be pillagers quickly, and Quasar thanks Moondragon for the assist.
Heading back into the temple she informs the monk, to his surprise, that the mercenaries are to be taken in and given shelter and provisions. Times are hard and violent for many planets in the wake of the Annihilation wave and she would rather educate the misfortunate rather than condemn them for the crimes which they commit out of desperation.
Back in the temple Phyla confides in Moondragon that she is no where near experienced enough with the Quantum-Bands. The wielder must posses immense concentration and imagination. She also worries that despite all of her training she could never live up to the legacy of her father or brother, the first and second Captain Marvel. Phyla also mentions to Heather that she is concerned that they are wasting their potential assisting such small and depopulated outworld planets. Moondragon responds that their work is necessary for the rebuilding of the Kree empire as Hala and the Heartworld planets are being overseen by Ronan himself.
Meanwhile Peter Quill is on Hala working to repair the holes in Kree defenses made during the Annihilation. He describes his plans to Nova during a holo-communication on his way to greet a group of Galadorian space knights who's software may be able to upgrade the entire Kree defensive network, the only major defensive network left in the quadrant after the Annihilation. The Galadorians upload their software updates and a fleet of Kree Sentrys launch for a test demonstration watched by Ronin himself.
While Phyla is meditating she is interrupted by a strange voice in her head once more informing her that there is a great danger to her and that she is the only one that can find the one to prevent a great threat to the Kree. As she is describing what happened to Moondragon a rogue Kree Sentry destroys the wall of the temple. Phyla is able to take out the Sentry with a shockwave from the Quantum-bands targeted at the rogue machine.
Above Hala the Kree Sentrys begin scrambling over an intruder that doesn't exist and even take out a Kree ship in orbit around the planet. There is an incompatibility between the network and the programming that was just uploaded. The Galadorians inform him that there was not programming incompatibility before turning on him and commencing fire upon the Kree guards. Looking into the head Galadorian's eyes he sees a strange machinery. He then looks up to see all of the Kree sentrys flying overhead with the same mechanical infection.
After ravaging the city with destruction the Sentrys begin massing together over the city's main power generator and even begin fusing together into a tower-something that the Kree technology in the sentrys shouldn't even be able to do. The tower sends out a massive surge of energy that tears straight through a Kree destroyer and catches the attention of Phyla and Moondragon. Following the ripples caused by the energy surge Phyla finds a wall of energy that is surrounding all of Kree space. The Quantum-bands tell her that whatever is causing this energy dome has put the entire area of space out of phase with the rest of the universe so that nothing can get in or out--something that not even Galactus has the power to do.
On Hala the same t-o infection that took over the Galadorians begins to spread to all of the Kree on the planet as well. Peter Quill is pleased to see that the Kree under his command are coming back to help him, however they are revealed to have caught to the same mystery infection as everything else. As creatures begin to come free of the Kree sentry tower a voice booms to the people of Hala that they will not be harmed so long as they submit and that rather than conquest they seek to preserve the future of the Kree. The figure identifies itself as the return of the Phalanx and that it has finally completed its conquest.
