    He is a fifty year old man, heft, dry and hard, with eyes as black as onyx and black hairs ridged with white. Before he was a knight of House Thorne of the Crownlands and fought on the side of House Targaryen during Robert's Rebellion. After King's Landing was sacked, he was given the choice of joining the Night's Watch or death.

    He is the master-at-arms responsible for training new recruits, but his tone and contempt makes him hated by all of the new recruits of the Night's Watch.
