Born in 1951 in Eskisehir, Ali Recan moved to Istanbul in 1966. After working for a law office he started to earn his money with drawings. He began to work as a graphic artist for newspapers and commercial firms. After that he started to write and illustrate comic strips. His first creations were Alp Tigin, M.I.T. Ajani Selim Sargin, Mutligiller, Akdeniz Korsani Sahin Reis and Fingirdek Filiz.
In 1972 he created his most known character Yüzbasi Volkan, a captain of the Turkish Air Force. After releasing as strips in several newspapers publisher Tay Yayinlari started to release a book series of Volkan in 1976.
In 1978 Recan founded his own publishing company Alfa Yayinlari. First he released series of his own comics, Volkan and Kaptan Venüs. Later he published several Marvel titles in Turkey, started with Conan. Conan became such an succes in Turkey that Ali Recan even founded a fan club.
In 1986 he leaved Alfa and in 1987 he became Chief Editor of Marvel Comics Group/Turkey. After a long abstinence in the beginning of the 1990's he re-founded Alfa in 1999.
He died 2002 in Istanbul.
