It is almost laughable that one of the medium's most influential artists broke into DC Comics drawing the misadventures of a comedian just after writing a gut-wrenching war tale. Yet it also bears testimony to the vast artistic range of Neal Adams.

Adams commandeered his first DC work as a penciller/inker with "It's My Turn to Die", a 9 page back up tale in "Our Army at War" 182 in July 1967. The following month, "The Adventures of Jerry Lewis" #101 perfectly illustrated how Adams was equally adept at delivering the art of laughter. In his first fill length story for DC, he provided writer Arnold Drake's space odyssey "Jerry the Astro-Nut" with photorealistic flair not seen in comics. Later Adams would bring his talents over to the company's mainstream super hero titles, starting with several covers for the Superman line.
